Dude, i'm serious when i say that if i ever lost a limb in a car / motorbike crash i would dedicate my remaining days to making a COOL ASS mechanical limb that partially or fully reconstruct the functionality of the limb I lost. Then i would pursue some kind of career as a bond villain henchman or something like that.

I have thought about this. I realised that even were I suddenly dynamite in bed, I wouldn't get a chance to use it in my current state. I'm the sort of guy who would normally only get sex whilst in a relationship, and I haven't found anyone to have a relationship with in a long time.

Unturned1 44 points45 points 1 month ago[-]

Lucid Dreaming, Think about it, you wouldn't need anything material, just finish up work, go home maybe eat something, fall asleep, and play your imagination like a video game for the whole night. Need to solve a complex math problem? No problem just sleep on it.

This is also a win-win skill: All women want to be seduced a little more often.

johnsonjohnson 18 points19 points 1 month ago* [-]

Check out the book The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene (of 48 Laws to Power fame). It's terrible, in an ethical sense, but tremendously interesting. Instead of using pop-feel-good-dr.phil-psychology, he uses examples of historical seducers (Napoleon's wife, Oscar Wilde) as well as famous fictional ones (Casanova, etc) and analyzes why their methods were effective. He outlines all the different archetypes of seducers as well as victims; he also has an entire chapter on what anti-seducers are. Essentially, what the book come downs to is that seduction is, all in all, a satisfying of the victim's (the one being seduced) narcissistic desire for security and self-worth. AKA girls that are worth having a healthy relationship with won't fall for these tricks - you'll only end up with the crazies. In any case, I'll look for a free online version somewhere and post it up.

Edit: Here you are: http://curezone.com/upload/PDF/Books/Robert_Greene_The_Art_Of_Seduction.pdf

We have a country that is run by people who have mastered the art of politics. Most politicians believe, deep down, that every compromise and every bit of pandering they do for their base, is for the greater good.

In order to master the art of politics you need to master the art of getting elected and staying elected. The whole way up you make compromises in order to position yourself for the next office, believing deep down that the damage you are causing is smaller than the good you will be able to do when you obtain a higher office.

Our problem isn't that good people never run for office or that good people do not understand how to get ahead in politics.

“A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”

  • Thomas Jefferson, drafter of the Declaration of Independence and 3rd President of the United States

“Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.”

  • John Adams, 2nd President of the United States

“A democracy is a volcano which conceals the fiery materials of its own destruction. These will produce an eruption and carry desolation in their way… Liberty has never lasted long in a democracy, nor has it ever ended in anything better than despotism… Democracy pollutes the morals of the people before it swallows up their freedoms.”

Drawing

AmandaElvia 3 points4 points 1 month ago[-]

Anyone can learn...just get down the basic concepts, and then you can go in any direction you are compelled to.

These books taught me everything: Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards The Practice and Science of Drawing by Harold Speed The Elements of Drawing by Ruskin

So, in basic education there is a system applied to learning things like math...first we learn to count, then to add, subtraction, then division, so on and so forth until we get to advanced mathematics. The same holds true for drawing, only many of us have to teach ourselves the basics and onward. Just do a little drawing everyday, like when your bored, or on the train to work, or sketch the next time you grab a coffee, and you'll be shocked how much you'll learn. You have a voice that will emerge the more you draw. Its unavoidable...

duplicitous 5 points6 points 1 month ago[-]

There are tens of thousands of professional athletes in America, of which perhaps a few thousand make enough money to be truly called wealthy.

For every Michael Jordan there are hundreds of players who made a great deal of money for a short period of time and have no real career skills to carry them through their 40's and beyond.

For every ex-pro athlete that's living a mediocre middle-class life there are several who are also suffering from debilitating injury, especially ex-football players.

Every shitty, relatively under-paid and short-career fourth-string nobody in the NFL is an athlete in absolute peak physical condition whose life revolves around training for his sport. He was was the best player on every team he was ever on until he made it to the pro leagues.

And for every one of him there are thousands of amateur athletes who never manage to make it pro, whether it be due to injury, lack of drive, poor genetics or just not being skilled enough.

There skill/pay ratio in most pro sports is shit. The level of dedication and effort combined with straight up having the right genetics required to reach those levels is obscene. Yes, Tiger Woods and Alex Rodriguez are hideously and frankly immorally over-paid by our society but the guys on that level are so few in number as to be insignificant.

Basically pro sports are a scam for everyone but the team owners and sponsors.

myhouseisgod 2 points3 points 1 month ago[-]

what always drives me crazy are NFL kickers. i mean, it's not like they get crazy contracts, but they make good money considering what they do and they can have very long careers compared to most athletes.
