The wonders of Japanese fast jazz don't stop with The Seatbelts, either.

Everybody should watch this show. I personally rank it higher than Firefly and I'm not even a big anime watcher. Download it, it's one season. You will not regret it. Or maybe you will, but in a good way.

[–]Late_Commenter 11 points12 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You really mean just one season? Like, 26 episodes + a movie? Also, watch the movie before watching ep. 24-26.

I just finished watching this and the music definitely made it. I guess it makes sense. When you look at the titles of the episodes, you know immediately that they are paying close attention to the soundtrack.

[–]tyler2k 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ok, here it goes. I'm a huge fan of animation, especially Japanese anime. So it goes without saying I love a lot of anime shows appearing nightly on the Cartoon Network. There's Witch Hunter- sorta like an animated X-Files, Big O- the Batman of giant Japanese robots, and one of my favorite shows, Cowboy Bebop. [It's] about 2 space bounty hunters, Spike and Jet, who team up with a woman named Faye and a computer wiz-kid named Ed.

One of my favorite episode was when Spike met a frog that told him he was on the staircase to heaven; and each episode has jazz music mixed into it that helps calm my nerves before I go to sleep. So you can imagine my annoyance when I turned on the Cartoon Network a couple of nights ago and found that show had been replaced [by] a new show called Cased Closed. The show is poorly drawn and features music that is completely inappropriate for my pre-sleep winddown.

Besides, if they needed a replacement for Cowboy Bebop, there are so many better shows to choose from like Sakura Diaries, Amazing Nurse Nanako, or my personal favorite, Bubblegum Crisis, about futuristic policemen who masquerade as machines.

Bottom line, America: The Cartoon Network should get rid of Case Closed, replace it with one of the shows I mentioned or bring back Cowboy Bebop with his nerve-calming jazz music.

One that not a ton of people know about but is severely kick ass is Judgement Night (yes, the one where Denis Leary hunts Emilio Estevez and Jeremy Piven through the Chicago ghetto)

The soundtrack is a kind of musical experiment...it's all rap and rock groups doing songs together. This is in the pre-Limp Bizkit days before rap rock was actually a genre of music.

Helmet & House of Pain, Teenage Fan Club & De La Soul, Cypress Hill & Sonic Youth, Ice T & Slayer, Dinosaur Jr. & Del tha Funkee Homosapien. Just to name a few.

Worth checking out if you can find it.

Princess Mononoke has one of the most epic soundtracks. Joe Hisaishi created a score that fit each scene perfectly. It is the most memorable soundtrack I have ever heard. At points it is thundering and powerful, others soft and emotive. I can listen to that soundtrack on it's own and without looking at track titles, I know exactly what is happening in the film.

It's not so much the soundtrack itself, but more of the catchy themes/tunes.

The movies depend on the soundtracks, but the soundtracks stand by themselves. That's an accomplishment.
