As a Belltowner, I like Bedlam Coffee as well as the Uptown Espresso on 4th and Wall.

Bedlam is pretty awesome. In addition to being open pretty late (10 on Sunday-Thursday, and midnight otherwise), they have a variety of drinks, pastries and other snacks. Nice atmosphere too, I know a bunch of guys who like to go there for hacking on stuff and messing around.

Dunno why Bedlam keeps scaling back their hours. Until some time within the past few months, they were open until 3 on weekends, and before that (I'd say about a year to a year and a half ago) it was open 24 hours.

Maybe they got sick of the douchebag weekend crowd?

Anyway, I never liked doing work at Bedlam (shoddy WiFi), but it was a great place to have a coffee, read the Stranger, and begin my weekend.

I don't live in Belltown, but I LOVE Bedlam. One time I went in after a ridiculous day and the guy working was so, so nice. And he was nice to my dog. One of the best coffeehouse experiences I've had in Seattle.

Plus they have an awesome winged Gundam or some such robot thing hanging behind them. It's kind of awesome. Wish I knew what it was exactly.

bauhaus is certainly a strong part of the reason I moved to Cap Hill. I wouldn't exactly say there was food nearby tho... Either it isn't food (with some strong exceptions like Machiavelli) or it isn't nearby. Great people watching. A bit crowded. Their coffee is better now that they've improved their roast across all the cafes in their family. I've spent many nights in there until 1AM.

I like Bauhaus a lot, but sometimes it gets too crowded and there's nowhere to sit. Staff and clientele are nice though.

Cafe Ladro is always a good place. There are bunch around and the adirondack chairs outside are always great.

You get my standard late-night reply: The Hurricane. Downtown, no more than 10 minutes on foot away from Westlake Station. Open 24/7, and really fits the greasy spoon image. The whole menu's available all the time. No energy drinks, just sodas...though they do have a bar and coffee, if you want those items. I think they may have a wifi setup there too.

Downsides: There are times of day where it won't be even remotely quiet. The bathroom's always a wreck, too.

I guess it doesn't meet your lateness requirement, but I love the 10th floor of the central library. Sadly, this isn't a good week for it (being closed and all).

I also have spent a lot of time in the basement of Stumptown (on 12th). I've gotten tons of coding done there, but unfortunately I don't know their hours.

Edit: scratch that. Stumptown is open until 10pm.

The have food, or at least cold drinks?

I also have spent a lot of time in the basement of Stumptown (on 12th).

I'll check it out. Thanks!

some sort of cafe on the first floor. not so much for food I'd say.

I just noticed that you said U-district - have you been to Solstice? Looks like they're open till 11pm. Obviously, they have the caffeine problem solved. and there's a Jimmy Johns nearby.

I love Solstice.

No, but I'll check it out. It's right off the bus line.

Also, I love me some Jimmy Johns. Just finished a #16. Mmm, mmm.

Just a heads up, the music at Solstice is sorta loud, I know I couldn't study in it.

On a similar note, what about the Trabant in the U-District?

Vivace at Alley 24 is open until 11, has the baddest ass coffee evar and decent wifi & pastries. there's also pizza and a deli on the block. From the 72 Fairview stop, it's a 10 min walk.

Cyberdogs is essentially a hot-dog stand, they are tiny, and there's very little around there. If you're getting the 72 from near UW, you could get a 43 to Capitol Hill, there's tons of great places around there. Vivace on Broadway has wifi and is open late, Caffe Vita on Pike is even better and is right near a ton of great food & drink options.

If you find this hacking space, let me know.

I occasionally find myself at the Delux/Metrix pairing if I can't get things done at home before midnight (when Metrix closes).

in UW:

both trabant and sureshot close at midnight. I dunno about sureshot, but trabant doesn't have many food options. Luckily, you're at 45th and the ave, so it doesn't matter. Plenty of food and booze options nearby.

on Cap Hill:

Bauhaus is open until 1am, has good people watching, no booze, and pastries (including ding dongs!). It is also a short walk from the convention center bus stop.

Vivace on Broadway is open until 11, has better espresso than you've ever had, has IPA + sammiches + salads + other food options. The 49 stops a block away, or you can take the 72 downtown, hop over to pike, and take the 49 or 43 up.

Online Coffee on Olive is open until 1am, has some pastries (but is close enough to Broadway and especially Dicks). Dunno about booze. 43 is ideal for online.

I prefer Vivace and spend a ton of time coding there. I loves it. I'd also be happy to pair with you, tho it has been years since I did any considerable python. Just don't tell me you've been coding on Twisted or I may go homicidal (again).

Nah, I'm writing a logging app for my search and rescue group. Still trying to figure out how to do it. Needs to be able to keep multiple, disconnected clients in sync when they connect up. I'm thinking sqlite for a local store, a multicast "sync" pulse to keep clients on the same lan in sync, and a seperate syncing app that can collect the data from the clients and ship it to an internet-based mysql server (where other internet clients not on the mission can also connect to, and thus sync their logs with the mission and vice-versa), but needless to say, it's a pretty big challenge, and I still haven't decided on exactly what the architecture needs to look like for it all to work smoothly.

Sureshot has some reasonable food options. Good sandwiches, chili, and pastries, IIRC. Their music, however, can be annoying; I don't mind it, but some of my friends get headaches...

It's definitely too loud to hold a conversation below bar-shouting levels. I can't imagine focusing on code there.

I mostly go to Kate's Pub on 45th just west of I-5 (and near the U District, or in it, depending on where the district starts and stops) for food and beer, and happy hour 4-7 with half off all food, but I believe they also have free wifi. They're laidback, the food is good, the beer is good. It might be too loud to do much work on a weekend night, but otherwise, if you can work in noise, you could try there.

I'm guessing they have standard coffee, but I know they have soda.

Watertown on 12th and Cherry is nice. It turns into a bar at night, but you can hang out and get your stuff done in a nice environment whether you want to drink or not.
