Lots of discussion in this thread from a couple days ago.

Great, thank you very much!

I just had 21st amendment's bitter american. 4.4% and it was so awesome. Also stone's levitation.

You're probably wanting to search around for "Session" beers.

Thanks! I'll have to pick up some 21st amendment beers when I'm in the bay next. I checked their website and there's none available within 100 miles of me :p

Maybe I'll try the levitation, although usually not a big fan of Stone's offerings.

Dogfish Head has that one brewed with peach, Festina Peche. That's one might be seasonal and hard to find, I'm not sure.

Edit: This one's on the top 100 on beeradvocate, and is 4%: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/590/1577

Yes, Festina is their summer beer. Any you find still on the shelves will have been there since last summer.

Thanks for the tip!

Stone Levitation (4.4%) and Drake's 1500 (5.5%) are both excellent. And Victory's Prima Pils (5.3%) is much, much better than Sudwerk's.

[–]poekoelan[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thank you! It looks like Prima Pils is available in my area, I'll try it!

[–]analog_guy 0 points1 point ago

If you have Sudwerk Pilsner available to you, I'm guessing you're in Northern CA. If that's the case, then you've got whole bunches of stuff available to you.

Socal actually, but I visit the bay area frequently. I'm a much bigger fan of norcal beers than anything brewed down here. I don't know why - maybe it has to do with the water quality? I just know I've never had a beer brewed in San Diego that I've liked.

edit: grammar

I'm sorry, but I think you're beyond help. ;-)

I second Levitation and Prima... both are fantastic! I haven't had Drake's though so I can't comment on theirs.

Surly Bitter Brewer. I drink it all summer long. 21st Amendment Bitter American is very nice too and now year-round. Nice to have those 2 greats brewed here in MN.

[–]poekoelan[S] 0 points1 point ago

I thought 21st Amendment was based in San Francisco?

[–]TheMacMan 0 points1 point ago

The brewery is yes. But all of their cans are brewed and canned here in Minnesota up in Cold Spring. Sully flys up here every now and then and brews it then we go grab a beer at Town Hall or where ever. Love their brewpub in San Fran too. Awesome food and great beers.

[–]poekoelan[S] 0 points1 point ago

ah I see...

[–]TheMacMan 0 points1 point ago

Some years back they hit the max they could can themselves at the pub in SF so they went searching for somewhere to do it for them. Cold Spring has a huge facility and actually is the #1 producer of energy drinks in the country. They started brewing there and have been very successful with it to the point that they've now build a dedicated beer brewery next-door to the current location.

Previously the beer shared the same brewing system with the energy drinks which lead to some really bad beer. There's a reason that most Minnesotans won't drink anything from Cold Spring. The 21st Amendment stuff out of there had issues when they first started too. Butter bombs is what Cold Spring is know for.

[–]poekoelan[S] 0 points1 point ago

Butter bomb, that's a new one on me (checks internet) - "a wine in which diacetyl is deliberately promoted in order to impart a buttery flavor". Hmm, I didn't know they could do the same thing with beer and/or energy drinks...

[–]TheMacMan 1 point2 points ago

Diacetyl is one of the most common flaws in a beer. Gives it a butter popcorn flavor. Cold Spring (previously Gluek's) is known for diacetyl problems.

I have not had it yet, but if you can get your hands on it, Founders has begun (I believe) bottling their All Day IPA. It is 4.8% and good reviews on beer advocate.

De La Senne has two delicious brews if you can find them:

Full Sail's Session Lagers are easily both reliable go to session beers for me as well.

[–]poekoelan[S] 0 points1 point ago

Picked up a case of the Full Sail session lager last night, was very satisfied!

[–]TheoreticalFunk 1 point2 points ago

Boulevard makes a really cheap but good Pilsner. I don't know the ABV off the top of my head.

edit: It's 4.8%

Grain Belt Nordeast is a delicious beer that comes in at 4.7% I've only had it on tap... the clear bottles scare me a bit. Then again the Boulevard Pilsner comes that way too.
