Statistics would also be a good minor. It will help you land a grad school position later and give you quantitative skills that a business would appreciate.

How about economics?

Bounded rationality, various cognitive biases, and other aspects of economic behavior fit well with your psychology major and with business.

Economics sounds nice, will I be able to acquire a good job? Sorry if that sounds a bit blunt but I really don't know how economics fits into the business world.

The business world is all about economics.

I imagine that going into social psychology or organizational behavior would be a good focus within the major.

Spanish means nothing as a degree, having the degree doesn't mean you are competent in the language (and Chinese would be better anyway)

I would suggest statistics if you are considering grad school at all.

Maths, statistics or computer science are all excellent to pair with psychology. Economics and philosophy are also good fits, but personally I'd recommend my initial three options.

I'm a psych major with a minor in philosophy, I find the two to be wonderfully complementary

This, or English - employers love to know they have people that can 1) critically think, and 2) write a decent sentence or two.

I double majored Psychology with English. If you're going a business route, that might not be a bad idea since you're good/enjoy writing. If so, try focusing on technical and business writing courses for your minor. I wish I did Bio instead of English, but if you know business is what you want to do, science may not be the best choice for you.

Yeah, it all depends on what you want to DO with yourself after the degrees - I doubled in English and Philosophy, and it's absolutely done wonders for my thinking, writing, and the lesson planning I do for my high school students. Being able to give them a bigger picture with the philosophy mixed into their lit courses has been a really fun exploration.

Though be warned, if you do English, you may develop an annoyance for people that can't complete a coherent sentence or email. Especially those in positions higher. It's amazing sometimes...

I've heard from advisors at my university (UIUC) that it's best to pick a specific minor, because psychology is kind of a broad, general major. For example, it would be better to get a Spanish minor than a Sociology minor, because this gives you more specific skills to offer a future employer -- in the opinion of the psyc advisor at the 4th best psyc program in the country.

My personal opinion is to be sure that you actually LIKE the minor you choose. It's great that you're choosing a minor with an eye to your career, but be sure that you will be interested in and enjoy the courses needed for it as well.

Thanks for the reply! I wouldn't like to minor in Spanish, I already speak it well and taking a class in something In already know never goes well with me. Did your academic advisor say anything about marketing?

pick something you're interested in. don't spend more time than you have to taking classes that you have no interest in if the only reason that you're taking them is to land a better job. with that being said, if you already speak semi fluent spanish, go with the business minor, and then if you have the opportunity brush up on your spanish skills in a spanish speaking country.

Thanks for the reply, and I did plan on strengthening my Spanish speaking skills later down the road. Do you know if marketing is a good minor? The little I read on it suggest you use your knowledge of psychology to help solve problems and that sounds pleasant.

i can't speak for a minor in marketing as i have never taken a marketing class or a business one for that matter. why not go for it? if it sounds good to you, and you think you'll enjoy the classes rather than dread them, no problem. and if you get through marketing and graduate and then get a job and realize you hate marketing, you'll be like everyone else who doesn't know what they want to do.

i'm a psychology major with a double minor in sociology and criminal justice. However since you plan on going into business after you graduate, I think the the stats/econ suggestions are very reasonable.

As others have said, stats/econ would be awesome.

Me? I'm hoping my marketing minor will be somewhat useful alongside my psych degree (going into my Junior year).

sociology?

more respected than, say philosophy and more likely to land you a job (I also like the economics / stats suggestions too)

Fast food management. It's where you will end up working anyway with a psychology degree.

I'll give you an upvote, but not necessarily true - my friend got a psyc degree and landed a job in a ... call center! I was lucky I had computer science as my minor otherwise I would've been the same. Little did we know when embarking on our psyc degrees :)

Yeah not true, I have a psych degree and my first job out of college started at over $50k... and it's not in fast food. :)
