Question: My mom got her laptop stolen in Moçambique. I see the robbers log in and out of skype (she had automatic log on) is there any way to get the IP address from skype? Is there any possibility that we can locate the computer since it is accessing the skype network? Any suggestions?

you really think that having the IP address of an ISP in mozambique means the ISP or the local legal authorities there will give you any info about it?

send a link via chat that has a URL you control. if they click on it, you can get the IP from the server logs.

You can triangulate an I.P to a physical location if you have enough geographically known points of reference. Those will be hard to come by in africa. A netsec related subreddit would be a better place to ask.

Here is one easy way to get the ip address of the user, This tip only tested in windows 7, here you go, 1. start a skype video chat with the laptop from your machine,

open up resource monitor/ just type in resource monitor in the start menu
click on the network tab on top
In the "processes with network acvitity" sort by total B/s in descending order

5.Now you will see skype eat some bandwith to some ip , this ip is the ip of your mothers laptop

Ps:- sorry for the bad wording, its 00:18 and I havent slept in 36hrs, will clean it tomorrow
