I just came here to make a Claudio Sanchez joke. Glad to see it's been taken care of, thank you.

I've heard good things about "Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software" by Charles Petzold (though I haven't read it yet)
Also, if you're traveling and bringing lots of book, you should pick up an e-reader. You'll be really happy you did. Think of it as the book-weight equivalent of a constant time algorithm.

I like cooking too! I have this recipe that serves 4 people but I need to serve 6, how much flour should I use?
It's ridiculous that I had to learn ANYTHING in K-12 that doesn't directly relate to my job! Not once have I been asked about US history or Shakespearean plays or basic biology or which word in a sentence is a noun or how to find the area of a cylinder! I wish they would have just let me pick a trade at age 14 and I could have trained for that and nothing else! Instead I had to waste my time learning things that exposed me to concepts I wouldn't have known about otherwise and then I had to use critical thinking to understand how non-vocational skills could still have practical and enriching uses.

Yea, I enjoyed it too. I think the alt text ( "I had a hard time with Ayn Rand because I found myself enthusiastically agreeing with the first 90% of every sentence, but getting lost at 'therefore, be a huge asshole to everyone'" ) hits it right on the head.
If you're willing to come at the book looking to glean some inspiration about working hard and doing the best work that you can you can really enjoy it. If you're looking for it to be an infallible bible of philosophy or the pentacle of literary achievement, you'll be disappointed. It's up to the reader to get the good stuff out of the book and ignore the bad.

I do all my coloring in Illustrator. The shading is just done with varied opacity layers.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy the comic. The babysitter boxing one is one of my favorites, too.

Well, I'm guessing the mural was painted primarily for a baby who has never seen it before, not a bunch of people on the internet. You are a secondary audience. Lighten up.

That's not completely true. I'm taking a class with Searle right now and his argument is really that we need to fully understand the neuroscience of the brain before we can attempt to create a mind. His stance isn't that a biological system is required for intelligence.

If you just want to build a blog, Wordpress is a great choice. While there is a lot of crappy PHP out there Wordpress is actually well written and does what it does well. If all you wanted was a blog and not a full fledged framework it might be a better choice than Django.
