TROPHY CASE

Pick-up soccer on campus by MogomoGamein uofm

[–]Goonbaggins 0 points1 point ago

Let me know if you're starting anything. I'm in town for the summer and the rec league I joined has a fairly low skill level and only plays once a week. First time in Michigan and don't know too many people also.

2011/12 Season end - top four leagues at a glance by modano_starin soccer

[–]Goonbaggins 1 point2 points ago

While that does have some influence, there's a lot more at play. For most of the season, getting called for a handball seemed to mean an automatic yellow. It was consistently head scratching how stupid most of them were. About a month ago I saw the yellow card for hand ball numbers floating around. Spain was well into the triple digits, and I think the next highest league was somewhere around 30. Another theme I tended to see was once a ref gave out one yellow, he'd give one to the other team for something trivial, as if to even it up.

Anyway, I'd always rather have English refs than Spanish.

Whatever happened to Freddy Adu? by the_codfatherin soccer

[–]Goonbaggins 13 points14 points ago

I think that's more about their scouting than shoving players who have "potential" in and expecting them to pop out amazing. They are very particular about who they choose.

Versus Mou, who tends to take losses and put the blame on referees/conspiracy/his players.

Are you me? Except for the study abroad part, that's my story and those are my feelings. If Pep goes to the EPL, I'll likely end up supporting his club because I respect the guy so much, and I haven't been able to find an English club I like enough.

It's two legs, so he'll get one of them. (Again, only if they win the Copa.)

That was the response to the eye poke. Mou got a 2 game Supercopa ban, Tito got 1. Pretty much a joke.

So Ramos will be out? Or is this already counting his yellow today?

Are any Real players on 4 yellows and in danger of missing the clasico?

Eric Abidal and his cousin (who donated the liver) said to be recovering well. by Jordalordalordin soccer

Both the donar and recipiant should have normal sized livers in 6-8 weeks. The human body is pretty awesome.

[–]Goonbaggins 1 point2 points ago

While it's not an operation to take lightly, the liver should regrow to normal size.

Living donors: Avoiding a long wait is possible if a person with liver disease has a living donor who is willing to donate part of his or her liver. This procedure is known as living donor liver transplantation. The donor must have major abdominal surgery to remove the part of the liver that will become the graft (also called a liver allograft, which is the name for the transplanted piece of liver). As techniques in liver surgery have improved, the risk of death in people who donate a part of their liver has dropped to about 1%. The donated liver will be transplanted into the patient. The amount of liver that is donated will be about 50% of the recipient's current liver size. Within 6-8 weeks, both the donated pieces of liver and the remaining part in the donor grow to normal size.

I think the sane ones actually watched most of the game rather than bitch on reddit at the first sign of controversy.

‘If I go to Liverpool’s ground and someone puts the ball into the area and Carragher hammers it out of play then the fans applaud. In the Nou Camp you would never be applauded for that. It’s a different culture that values different things. Here if they see you are afraid when you are in possession then you get whistled. It’s the world in reverse.'

Since this kit keeps reappearing every few weeks (why won't it die?!), I'm beginning to believe that it will be the official home kit next season... by Hipgnosisin Barca

[–]Goonbaggins 2 points3 points ago*

This is clearly a knock off kit, and the real one will look better. I can't find the image leaked from an actual Nike event at the moment, but it wasn't too horrible, even though I'm not a fan of the design.

I wondered before if they went with this gradient because they knew it'd be more difficult for knockoff jersey manufacturers to mimic the real jersey in a believable manner.

Edit: This is the one leaked from the Nike event I don't think it's fair to judge off this knock off; wait until we see them on the pitch.

Is the "quality" of the pitch regulated in the top leagues, if not, should it? by _sicin soccer

[–]Goonbaggins 3 points4 points ago

I think the issue here is there were reports that the pitch was completely fine just a few days ago. I can't find a link at the moment, so I can't say how true the reports were.

Mou needs to shut up, his obsession with Barcelona is getting a bit too intense by poetical_poltergeistin Barca

[–]Goonbaggins 2 points3 points ago

Come on, that's a highly editorialized title.

"I hope it is a beautiful game and at the end of it we are not talking about the referee," Mourinho said to reporters.

I'm sure he was asked about the game, and that's a fairly neutral response considering all the ref things that have happened recently.

USA eliminated from Olympic Qualifying by ForgottenPromisein soccer

I was excited about Adu after the Gold Cup and thought he was back on track to contribute good things to the first team. Granted, this was the only game of the tournament I saw in full, but Freddy kept making very poor decisions that gave the ball away. In the second half he played a little better in contributing some solid passes, but he was still making plenty of poor choices with the ball.

Yeah, he could improve, but it just doesn't seem like he has the sense needed to play smart possession soccer, even though the skills are there.

Really? I thought he had a piss poor first half, making lots of bad decisions. His second was better, but every good decision seemed to come with a bad one right after.

We have the decisions about the sanctions. by Sgt_peppersin realmadrid

[–]Goonbaggins 0 points1 point ago

The thing is, I tend to go with the more believable story when a reliable source isn't available, and it makes a bit more sense that Rui and Ozil were adding dialog to their "clapping." I glanced at the RFEF report, but didn't put a lot of effort into translation, and have only read comments saying Rui was clapping Ronaldo on.

Can't find the RFEF report at the moment. Link?

Edit: Oh, and I never read any complaints about either Ramos yellow, so I'm still interested about the first one.

Anyone have a clip of the first Ramos yellow? I thought the second was fairly deserved, but can't find the first anywhere.

I don't think any of these are completely out of the question, I just expected the Ozil and Ramos outcomes to be reversed.

It's definitely been an unlucky year for Barcelona when it comes to refereeing decisions. However I tend to believe these sort of things go back and forth over time. Akrim is embarrassing some Barca fans by complaining...
