TROPHY CASE

How much would this blastoise fighting type misprint go for? by lolwolf12345in pokemon

[–]Guardo 1 point2 points ago

This is not a misprint. There is a tool called "Google" (www.google.com) that can be used to search for these cards to discover their price and / or if they're a misprint.

Use it.

Go to your local card shop, you'll probably find a bunch of people who play it that you didn't know about :D

Is it just me, or are the attacks of Pokemon cards becoming too overpowered? by broogenheimenin pokemon

I'd argue that is it just as strategic, just harder because most people, especially for tournaments, build super OP decks.

You have to think ahead a few turns because otherwise you'll get wiped by the big guys.

If anything, it is less casual. But I understand what you mean about it being OP.

Why does it make you die a little inside?

These cards, whilst over powered compared to the older cards, are fairly balanced (excluding a few cards, including that Mewtwo, so probably a bad example :D )

Well let us compare this card to the current, legal standard of play.

It is a stage 3, so it will take at least two turns to get it fully evolved and another turn to use the attack if you are attaching one energy a turn.

Thus is could be considered quite a bad, slow card compared to things like this:

Mewtwo EX

Which, as you can see, has a stupidly, over powered attack that can be used on turn one with a double colourless energy attached.

They haven't really screwed up the balance if you play the current legal set (HGSS cards and up), but yes, compare to the older ones the new ones are much stronger.

This is a natural part of trading cards games: release new, stronger cards so people buy more.

Actually, considering the current state of the meta game, this is a fairly good to meh card.

It is called "power creep" - every card game introduces new card sets that are stronger than the previous to encourage people to purchase more.

Charizard, the non-dragon-type dragon by TheVvotein pokemon

[–]Guardo 0 points1 point ago

No, they are weak against dragon because their attacks do half as much damage.

Dragon IS resistant to those types

Let us put a pure fire type against a pure dragon type:

  • Dragon hits for normal damage against fire - it is neither weak not strong against it.

  • fire hits for half damage against dragon, therefore dragon resists fire - therefore it is weak against it.

See the dragon chart here - 1/2 damage from on defense

See the fire chart here - 1/2 damage to dragon on offense

Types only matter for battling, if you're complaining about Charizard not being a dragon when it is clearly inspired by a dragon then you need to chill out.

It is a typing system for battling.

They will not up and change the types of Pokémon from 10+ years ago.

No, Dragon resists these types, therefore those types are weak against Dragon.

If we flip it the other way around and look at it from the types point of view: they are dealing less than the normal damage, so they are weak to it.

Grab some of the next destinies boosters. The EX pokemon in them are currently wiping the floor at tournaments and they're invaluable (and rare). Check out pokebeach.com for a ton of tips on deck building.

You can't combine them. There is a 60 card limit in decks. Also - theme decks are pretty weak.

When I was ten, my mom threw out all my cards. Yesterday, I decide to buy a pack, and this is the first thing I pull out :'D. God I miss when this was socially acceptable. by JingleSlicein pokemon

[–]Guardo 2 points3 points ago

It is socially acceptable though, pop to your local card store and you'll find people to play.

That, or stop giving a fuck about what others think of you.

This really annoys me about r/Pokemon... by Meem0in pokemon

[–]Guardo 0 points1 point ago

Because I am not a moderator on this subreddit and that would be like trying to implement new rules on /r/gaming , the shear size of the subreddit would mean everything would be ignored. It is much better to have another optional subreddit for more mature discussion (Pokémon and mature do fit into one sentence :P )

I propose we set up a truepokemon subreddit or something, just like they did with /r/truegaming when /r/gaming got too full of shit.

[–]Guardo 5 points6 points ago

I completely agree.

I'm so fed up of the repost nostalgia-ing that I've started being passive aggressive in all the posts about it.

This is a subreddit for Pokémon, therefore I expect discussion on the new games and current TCG stuff (the actual pokemontcg reddit is dead as it is, but anyway) and not constant reposts about stuff like:

  • Old cards you've found under the bed - They are worth very little
  • Why you hate a generation
  • OMG LOOK AT UMBREON AND ESPEON (disclaimer: I love Espeon)
  • Incorrect assumptions about the anime / games without doing a simple google search first.

Or at least, not as much as there is on here. It seems 90% of the subscribers are just the occasional fan who has discovered something awesome, like a baseset charmander (note: not awesome) and thinks they'll get a shit ton of upvotes for it.
