These guys should be famous. I stumbled onto this on youtube, and I'm absolutely floored. by ZuluPapain Guitar

Meh. Kid's got skills sure, but that doesn't make up for a boring song.

Anyone else feel like Trophies have kind of ruined gaming in general? (Hear me out) by faviangin PS3

[–]Jagged_Orchid 2 points3 points ago

Here's an idea, stop giving a shit. Let the babies have their bottle, if someone refuses to play a game because it doesn't have trophies then it's their problem not yours.

I do think trophies should be more fun to get though. Unlike you I enjoy treasure hunting. It's quite old school and reminds me of old platformers where collecting was very much appart of the experience. But some developers come up with really silly trophy ideas. I remember playing Trine and there was a trophy for conjuring 500 objects in a single level. There is no reason you would ever have to make that many objects in a level, heck you could get through the entire game with under 100 probably. The only way to get this trophy is to stand there and draw boxes on the screen for 20 minutes, thoroughly un-fun.

New The Last of Us Trailer by zakislamin gamernews

[–]Jagged_Orchid 1 point2 points ago

Why is this being down voted? What am I missing, is there some stupid 'no trailers' rule here at r/gammernews? I'm not subscribed to r/gamming to avoid all the bullshit meme stuff but what the hell is wrong with a video showing off an up and coming title?

videotape=young and the restless? by tony_the_ponyin radiohead

[–]Jagged_Orchid 8 points9 points ago

A deconstruction:

Similar rhythmic and harmonic content and same key signature.

Videotape is played in A major, resolving in A and never going to the relative F# minor which is what the Young and Restless theme resolves to, puting it squarely in F# minor.

Videotape chords are A, C#m and E playing one bar of each

Young and the Restless Chords are F#m E, D and C#m playing two bars of each.

Melody of Videotape is A, G# G# F#

the 'melody' you hear in The Young and The Restless theme isn't really a melody but the strange harmony created by moving the root 'F#' in the F#m chord to G#. But for arguments sake we'll call the melody here G# G# F# F#

The similarity here is in the rhythm really, all other similarities fall appart when the songs change chords.

is uncharted 3 multiplayer alive? by rollowzin PS3

[–]Jagged_Orchid 0 points1 point ago

It's plenty alive. And it will stay that way right up until Uncharted 4 probably.

need help in making a decision on what game i should get first mw3 or skyrim? any thoughts? by whiteguycarlosin PS3

[–]Jagged_Orchid 0 points1 point ago

Depends really. Unless you want to spend a lot of time with multiplayer you'll find MW3 limited in content. Skyrim has hundreds of hours of gameplay. So in my opinion more bang for your buck go for Skyrim.

The only scales I know are the minor and major pentatonic, what are some scales to learn? by coolman4202in Guitar

Learn the dorian mode, it's easy to play and easy to implement.

That was incredible. I don't get why you posted it in /r/SpecArt but all the same I'm very glad you did so I could see it.

A cappella cover of "Somebody That I Used to Know ft. Kimbra". Worth watching. by storms0831in videos

[–]Jagged_Orchid 1 point2 points ago

It is definitely auto tuned but tastefully done considering how easy it is to over do. It's also not a live (not that they're claiming it is) performance. A lot of the 'wow' factor is lost when you consider these two facts.

PS3 fell off cabinet, now HDMI won't work at all but the AV cable does. by theorialin PS3

[–]Jagged_Orchid 0 points1 point ago

If everything is fine except the HDMI port then get it fixed. If you can't find a decent quote for repair then ask around friends and family to see if you can find anyone with a decent understanding of electronics. More than likely (if everything else is fine as you say) it will be a few loose solder joints that need to be re attached and maybe the component needs replacing.

How do you feel about pantheism? by batsamin TrueAtheism

[–]Jagged_Orchid 9 points10 points ago

Pantheists can certainly identify as atheists. They share many of the ideals associated with naturalists and humanists and as Dawkins puts it, pantheism is a kind of 'sexed up atheism'. But is pantheism in line with my understanding of the universe? No.

Pantheism tends to lean towards the idea that as conscious beings we are apart of a hyperdimensional and eternal unified consciousness. Though not a dangerous concept it is just another, albeit bittersweet ointment for the wound that many have from dealing with their own mortality.

All this aside pantheists tend to be realists and as such adopt the most common position of 'not knowing' that is shared with their agonistic contemporaries.

Okay, I understand that there is and will be only one "Radiohead", but in respects to their consistency and influence who would you pin as the next "Radiohead". by quakeroats91in radiohead

[–]Jagged_Orchid 1 point2 points ago

I don't think there's going to be, and not because there aren't great bands that fit the mantle but because of the state of the music industry and it's tendency to promote mundanity while the profound drown in a sea of obscurity. That said, I really hope I'm wrong.

Which book changed your life and when? by the_swishin AskReddit

[–]Jagged_Orchid 0 points1 point ago

Books are almost always better than their film adaptations and watching The Golden Compass made me realize how unrelentingly true that is. I left so unbelievably disappointed and jaded. What was the point of watching films if the better experience lies predominantly in the pages of a book?

Need help with "sound-proofing" a room for instruments. by MCCornflake1in Guitar

[–]Jagged_Orchid 2 points3 points ago

This is good for making your room sound better (if you do it right) but it will do very little in the way of sound-proofing.

Hi guitarists! How do you tell whether it's your setup which sounds like shit, or your actual playing? by cheesysamin Guitar

[–]Jagged_Orchid 1 point2 points ago

your set up could be a bit naff, but just try turning down the gain a bit. Everyone over does distortion, do you want to be able to hear what you're playing? Or are you comfortable with a wall of fuzz. Not that there's anything wrong with a wall of fuzz in the right context.

Ridge Racer Unbounded - Basic and Advanced City Editor by dextor7in gamernews

[–]Jagged_Orchid 0 points1 point ago

Though tracks could certainly be quite convoluted. It seems powerful enough that if you had a basic understanding of the rules of level designing you could use the staple path defining elements like colours (yellow generally indicates the right way, red indicates the wrong way), symbols (a big red 'X' for a dead end), subtle arrow shapes and less than subtle (big blinking arrow with 'this way' written above it) arrow shapes.

Is There More Uncharted on the Way? Looks like it! by joelrtaverasin PS3

[–]Jagged_Orchid 8 points9 points ago

Ah man, let's not. Too much of a good thing and the series will just get dry fast. Uncharted 3 was a little weak in the story but at least it summed up things nicely in the end, An uncharted 4 would just be too contrived from the get go.

How I musically trolled /r/Guitar, and you took the bait. by tibbonin Guitar

[–]Jagged_Orchid 3 points4 points ago

Well your experiment is slightly flawed in that it doesn't really prove anything other than people can recognize a poor performance which, for Page's part here is just atrocious. Sure, you could argue that the guitarists here with Page shrines in their closet couldn't say a bad thing about it but you can't know that. To complete your experiment you would have had to post this solo here, credited it rightfully to Page and title it something along the lines of 'Jimmy Page Solo, live 1983'. If the comments are generally positive then your hypothesis has some sound evidence.

If you could have Radiohead's next album be similar to any of their past ones, which would it be? Why? by walkep25in radiohead

[–]Jagged_Orchid -1 points0 points ago

A hybrid of In Rainbows and The King of Limbs. The new sound with a more 'live' band feel. Basically what 'Bloom From the Basement' is but a whole album of that.

Reminder: Please post NSFW content to r/NSFW_Wallpapers by [deleted]in wallpaper

[–]Jagged_Orchid 3 points4 points ago

What constitutes NSFW? I encourage people to use NSFW tags liberally for the sake of all visistors but most of the stuff I see here marked as such is models or actresses in lingere and swimsuits. While labelling this stuff NSFW is a welcome precaution I don't think it's really the sort of content I'd expect to see on /r/NSFW_Wallpapers. Is this sort of 'classier' mature content welcome here?
