Reddit, I had a miscarriage a few years ago, Mother's Day hurts a bit... Anyone else in the same boat? by JennaBug6272in AskReddit

Thank you. I'm sorry for your loss, Happy Mother's Day to you as well.

It's hard to think of it that way, to think it was never a person. It's not the same as thinking you are going to buy a new car, and the deal falls through. It's a bit more personal than that.

I appreciate your suggestion though. As far as I know, I'm still able to carry a child.

Thanks, I never really thought about looking into things like that.

Well try to keep your head up and look for volunteer opportunities, it really helps when people in the field see you and learn your name for the future.

I worked in childcare for nearly three years. It is one of the most rewarding jobs, yet one the worst underpaid as well. What were you going to school for? I was enrolled in an associate degree program for Early Childhood Education.

Hmm... this sounds so much like me currently. I started looking into the local hospital for entry level positions. Then possibly moving up and attending school online to finish my original degree. Our hospital recently opened a new wing so there are some openings. Any chance of something like that in your town?

I beg to differ on the subject of skinning animals. In the US (assuming that this is where it was taken) we simply do not condone that kind of behavior for domesticated animals. Also, if the skinning was done for taxidermy reasons it would still be very traumatic to be seen for a child, or even an adult. If the skinning was done legally, the body should have been covered up, rather than laid out in the open.

Reddit, if kids don't know what a VCR is anymore, are there other common household things that have long been forgotten? That if we saw today, we would have no idea what it was used for? by puddlesinapondin AskReddit

[–]JennaBug6272 0 points1 point ago

Surprised I haven't seen this one mentioned yet. It's not exactly a 'household' thing... but $2 bills. I gave one to a young friend for a birthday gift, and she laughed about the "funny money."

My girlfriend is 5'8" and over 220lbs, is it wrong to break up because I'm not attracted to her? We've been dating for 5 years and she's gotten bigger each year and she has no plans to diet or exercise. by cop_copin AskReddit

[–]JennaBug6272 4 points5 points ago

Speaking as a "bigger" girl myself.. if she doesn't take into consideration her health or how you feel about her talk to her about it first. If she tells you she wants to work on it, then think about solutions together.

On the other hand if after discussing and letting her know your feelings and she still doesn't want to try to improve herself then it might be time to go your separate ways.

After 5 years you should have enough trust in each other to be able to speak honestly. You owe her an explanation of why you are not happy, and you also owe her time to change as well.

Reddit, what's the most heroic thing you have ever done/witnessed? by scotthowardADTRin AskReddit

When I was young we watched a child under the care of the YMCA get stuck by the car in front of us. The under trained staff didn't know what to do. My mom jumped into action and attempted to save the little boy. She told my to stay away and not to look, the child was only a few years younger than I was at the time. I went to the backseat and got our blanket that always kept in the car and brought it over to cover him with.

Everyday after I asked about that child, hoping he would recover. Sadly, he didn't make it. Later, we found out the car that had stuck the child was driven by a member of his family. It was a sad event all around.

Ahh that would a good idea to see the progress throughout. We use the old ceramic croaks, my grandfather is set in his ways of doing it.

wow! I've never though about that. I normally add some horseradish into mine. A nice little spice. Also, I use only mustard rather than mayonnaise.

Powdered gravy?? Haha that's a funny thought to me. I've never seen/heard of it done that way. I'm like you, I always make my gravy from scratch.

We shred up the cabbage and put it into croaks and add some salt to taste. Just regular non-iodized table salt. Then we stomp it mixing the salt into the cabbage. We put a regular dinner plate upside down on the mix and a large stone (it's been washed and sanitized and only used for cabbage) on the top. This keeps everything pushed down while fermenting occurs. We normally wait at least 2-3 months for it to ferment fully.

Then we put it into pots to heat it up so we can, can it. I guess my grandfather taught me the old way of doing it, we heat the contents of the jars up, put it into the jar and use a hot lid to seal it. Then let it cool for a few days before moving them, and ensure that all the lids "popped" and were sealed correctly.

We normally do about 20-25 heads of cabbage when we can, leaving up with about 70 or so jars. It's a timely process but like I said before, it's totally worth it for me.

Wow!! That's crazy different than the way my grandfather and I make it. No apples, onions, or seeds. I think maybe I'll make a small batch up next year with my larger regular batch. Thanks for the link!
