I am now going to bed early after stretching for 30 minutes after doing handstands and downing an overdose of vitamin D and various nootropics.

WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT FROM ME!!?

He is the hero that FCJ deserves, but not the hero FCJ needs right now. So we'll hunt him because he can take it. He's not the hero; He's our silent guardian, our watchful protector, the Dark Lionel.

Hey I like reading full studies:

Some interesting charts.

Every red dot above the red line and to the left of the black line is a woman with >30% bf but a < 30 BMI. That was the 48% of women classified as non-obese via BMI but obese (>30% bf) by body fat. Blue dots are men but you can't see them as well. They had a 22% rate.

Dat leptin insensitivity. Ye olde Taubes gets criticized for barely mentioning leptin and I can see why.

Those body fat classifications were ones they came up with in the study. They are:

For the purposes of this study, we identified the following groups based on percent body fat: for men <14% (Very low), 14%–17·9% (Fit), 18%–24.9% (Overweight), 25%–34.9% (Obese), 35%–39.9% (Morbidly obese), ≥40% (Super obese);

for women <15% (Very low), 15%–24.9% (Fit), 25%–29.9% (Overweight), 30%–39.9% (Obese), 40%–44.9% (Morbidly Obese), ≥45% (Super obese).

Average body fat was pretty gnarly. 24.3 (7.0 std dev) for men and 35.4 (7.8 std dev) for women. Using 25/30 cutoffs for men/women, 46% of men were obese and 74% of women were obese. Age was 51.4 (14.2) for both men and women, so these are all middle aged people. The average man was baaaarely not obese, average woman was 5 points above the obese cutoff.

13% had no health insurance. 'Murica.

I hadn't tried the whole bunch of caffeine before working out thing for a long time. Probably almost two years. I used to work out near my office, so I would down a cup of (free) coffee before going to the gym. I stopped almost immediately after a couple workouts a row where I would get light headed after squatting.

This past Saturday I decided to try again. Took 400mg in caffeine pills ~30 minutes before doing squats. Light headed again.

Is this a known thing, or is it a placebo thing because I was kind of expecting it to happen? I'm not doing interval training or anything. Just straight up 5x5 squats.

Added. If you actually test and you get over 1000 in like a month...well you'll have to answer to Spasmo.

I have lanky arms and extremely small wrists. Any suggestions for not hurting my wrists while doing starting strength? by jckin Fitness

Mine are 6 5/8th" and I've never had a problem. Just make sure you do any pushing exercise with the bar near the base of your palm.

Forearms are vertical at the bottom of the bench press. 18 inches between index fingers is like barely outside my chest. Are you Peter Dinklage?

Are you weak enough to join the Captain Spasmo Strength Contest for Strong People? Qualification is < 900 pound total for front squat, close grip bench, sumo deadlift.

To answer your question in IRC, which was should you go off calculated or tested, generally whichever one is newer. I don't expect everyone to be testing their 1RMs every month. We can go off calculators to guess at it so you can show some sort of monthly progress for the leaderboard. You can't win anything without actually doing the lift so I don't see a problem with it.

If the spreadsheet wasn't already super wide I would have indicated if the lifts were tested or calculated.

Example: I do 1RM tests every three months. I hit 285 squat tested in December. End of January I did 240x5x5 which, using my totally made up 90% rule for 5x5s, calculated out to 300 pounds. February sucked, I spent all of March making up for it, and tested at 305 pounds at the end of March. The 305 pounds at the end of March was a real-life 20 pound PR, but only added 5 pounds to the leaderboard.
