Nevermind that. What matters is that you're going to try again tomorrow.

Has anybody tried "e-cigarettes?" by noimnotchinesein stopsmoking

[–]MavisBacon 0 points1 point ago

Yes. Nicotine-free e-cigarettes are definitely the way to go. Once your chemical dependence is done you're just appeasing everything else surrounding the brain's perceived reward of smoking.

Auto - Paint & Rust Repair by Practixin londonontario

[–]MavisBacon 0 points1 point ago

On google street view there's a sign that says they have a paint special for $900. If that's for a whole car, pricing should be decent for small repairs.

That's really it. A common addiction mantra: one day at a time. You should celebrate this incrementing number each morning.

Smoking indoors has been outlawed here for quite some time, I can't imagine spending an evening breathing second hand smoke, even if I was still a smoker!

On my 10th day after 15 years of smoking, some questions. by jehjoain stopsmoking

[–]MavisBacon 1 point2 points ago

Stock up on healthy snacks like veggies, popcorn, natural/raw unsalted nuts. Keep your hands and mouth busy. At work I snack on raw almonds, and I've had great success with an e-cigarette. Another good thing to do is gulp a glass of water whenever you get a craving.

I had (and occasionally have) cravings after intense CoD games. Again: nuts, popcorn, water etc.

4.5 days in...who am I again? How...this...i dunno by datareleasein stopsmoking

Ride those cravings like a roller coaster. When you're at the peak just know that there's no way it will get worse, and soon it will be over.

Knowing the technology comes at a young age; learning to avoid the interpersonal and political landmines in a workplace is something that can take a lifetime to learn (or a bit more than 17 years)

I am a recovering alcoholic - 30 years drinking; 950 days sober by paulpiscesin IAmA

[–]MavisBacon 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for this, and I hope you have time to provide some guidance:

My mother has been an alcoholic as far back as I remember. My father also drinks, but I do not believe him to be dependant. He is probably just drinking because my mother drinks.

Since I've moved away from the city they live in 11 years ago, other than going to a few Al-anon meetings here and there and going through some of the literature, I haven't done anything about this issue. We don't even speak about it.

Is there anything I can do to help? From what I've gathered an alcoholic can't quit unless they want to quit. I did the Al-anon stuff in case my parents ever want help so I could be equipped to do so however I can, but I really want to speed this up. My parents aren't getting any younger!

I now have the most awesomest thermostat on the block. by pittsburgh924in DIY

[–]MavisBacon 14 points15 points ago

I'm not entirely sold on this. I'd rather have more control over my thermostat than hoping this product "learns" our household habits correctly. Another thing is that some people don't have regular schedules and are home at different times depending on the day of the week. How does it handle that?
