.300 Blackout Uppers - Is this a good place to get one? by helix6in guns

[–]Mr45 1 point2 points ago

Model 1 sales is hit or miss.

Back in the days, their bolts were notorious for breaking in half. That's fixed, but somehow their mil-spec stuff isn't interchangeable with real mil-spec stuff. I had an 11.5" upper from them, and when the time came to replace the firing pin cotter pin, a USGI one didn't fit. The hole was too small. Called up, and got a bag of new ones, that did fit. Having said that, the 11.5" upper has run for a very very long time on my M16, and is still going strong as an SBR upper.

Last year(?) they were having some credit card fraud issues, a lot of card numbers got stolen. Not sure if that's resolved, so certified mail with funds may be the best way to pay.

I haven't read anything on their 300 BK uppers, so YMMV.

Cool. There isn't much to the internals of the PBS-1.

I have an SBR M92 - and I wish it was a 74U. I just can't get comfortable with the underfolder.

I've shot an M16 with a 5.7 upper. What a blast that was. I'm thinking about switching my M16 upper to 5.7. I haven't compared prices with brass quality .223 yet though.

It kind of depends on what receiver it has. If it doesn't have a Vulcan/Hesse receiver, I'd say $600~$700, if if runs well.

Ideally, nothing. But try it and see what happens first. Ods are it will be fine.

If you see removing, taking down the barrel shoulder and reinstalling it with re-indexed sights is somewhat of a big deal, recutting a chamber is child's play. Cutting reamer and a finish reamer. Go slow, check often. Odds are you can rent one. Check with Troy at BarrelXChange. He makes 54r barrels for belt fed Brownings. He'll know where to get or even rent you a reamer.

I threw the volquartzen stuff in a bag, and have been using the Timney ever since.

Your headspace is too long. You can't just cut a new chamber, you need more "meat". That's why the barrel has to be installed "tighter". Surely Brownells or Midway have reamers.

[–]Mr45 1 point2 points ago

Right on.

If you can't solve it with a replacement bolt, next would be unscrewing the barrel, which is probably tough as can be, and turning just a fraction off the should it indexes to the receiver with. But, then your sights won't index anymore, so they'll have to come off, and be reattached. Then, after you torque the barrel to the receiver, you'll have to re-cut a new chamber in the barrel, as the headspace is probably too short now.

All in all doable, but a waste of time/money on a $79 rifle. Can you just not shoot it and get a replacement? Have you tried different ammo, by the way?

I'm so fucking fed up with ARs and Nickel-Boron coated parts, Bad levers, AFGs, MOE and knockoff optics. And all the homeschooled operators sitting in their ivory towers of don't-judge-me venting their opinions and recommendations on gutter garbage like Tapco and UTG. The overpriced Tier 1 shit no one needs and few can afford. The whole tacticool culture is sickening. Rifles all look the same, AFG, shit-rail, flat-top, shit optics, gunshow flashlights and backwards mounted sights. Collapsible stocks all the way extended. All of them drug through pools of tactical unicorn tears and Chris Costa's semen, deemed utterly reliable after 150 rounds of Wolf. Everybody who can assemble an AR is now a professional gunsmith. Troubleshooting crappy builds is now done online by people that actually have some knowledge to share.

I run my shit hard. If it won't last on my M16, I don't want it. And I don't clean my shit. I spray more lube. My machinegun barrel is shot out, it's a WOA 10.5' I've managed to shoot out in a short timespan. It's a fucking mirror inside. I probably keyhole like a drunken locksmith. Don't give a fuck. Just get another barrel. MGI upper, 2 seconds, done.

So, my question.

Should I sell my M16 and get a select fire FAL? I have a lead on one. It appears that the steel battle rifles will last forever. They're hard-core. Tough as nails. And too recoil-heavy for most mouthbreathing AR operators. Good.

Am I moronic for wanting to dump my ARs? Keep my KISS SBR that lives in my trunk and my Colt SP1, because it's how Gene intended it, and dump the rest? I have a 14" Para FAL Franken-build, and I love it. I think I'm going to convert.

Save me Gunnit! Talk me out of it! OR am I not alone in this? Anyone else fed up? Love shooting a 20" full stock AR? I swear, it's as nice as it gets...

Replaces hammer, springs and bushings, IIRC.

I had it in mine, loved it, and then got a T&E Timney unit to try.

Get the Volquartzen (sp?) drop in kit from Midway.

The price of the kit makes polishing not worth it...

He's always filled the orders we've placed with him. Slowly, but he never did us wrong.

I've spent almost and hour listening to him babbling about his f1 vintage cars, and his escapades at Spa Francorchamps.
