What failed? by CarrrotKNOWSin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

That is one thing I'm scared to try... I had a couple of friends who had major problems with them (rejection, heavy bleeding and cramping). I guess I may have to bite the bullet on this one if I want to have some reliable form of contraception, I guess some people take to them better though.

What failed? by CarrrotKNOWSin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 3 points4 points ago

My BC pills failed me, no matter which brand I took, all within 3-6 months of taking them, and they were all used properly as prescribed. I had breakthrough bleeding with all of them, especially Alesse, which I bled for 40 days. My docs refused to prescribe me with a higher than average hormone dose, even though they were made for average women. I am 6'2" with a larger skeletal frame. The average height is 5'4" last time I checked, and BC pills were made for the norm. I kept asking for a higher dosage, and they were arrogant stating height wasn't a factor and "all women should have the same biology" (or as I like to put it, one size fits all). Nuvaring wouldn't stay inside no matter how I inserted it, because the doc wouldn't do a simple exam to see if I would have problems with it.

I have been denied tubal ligation over and over (I'm 24 years old, too young was another excuse), despite having two sons, until I got pregnant with my girl due this August. The magic number 3, I guess.

tl;dr; Simply put, contraception failed because docs themselves failed to be considerate of my contraceptive/medical needs, and treated me like I was a complete buffoon when it came to listening to my own biological tune.

How to 'cure' a feminist. by dumaain TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 8 points9 points ago

1) Lie & fake it. 2) Manipulate her clothing preferences by shaming her appearance and choice in clothing. 3) Buy her off and domesticate her. 4) Give her a false environment or "habitat" so she'll remain blinded.

Once again, Maxim, you have outdone yourself. Very "charming" indeed. No luck in the dating world because we're no longer in the 1800's? Don't worry, you can reshape and change someone's entire belief system in 4 easy, manipulative steps. Only complete idiots would follow this advice, which I can only hope is a satire article.

http://daughtersofnarcissisticmothers.com/ This site is beyond helpful, as I have a mother like yours. Yes, a pissing contest. Exactly. I remember those. "Oh, you had Nitrous Oxide gas for your labor and delivery? Well, I had give birth to you all naturally, there weren't any pain killers in my day! I guess there are no real women left these days!" (said to me in the hospital shortly after the birth of my first son) and "oh he was 9 lbs 3 oz? you weighed in at 9 lbs 13 oz!"

I am wondering, does she tend to gaslight, too? As in "crazy making" or "you have some imagination on you"? It's a trademark NPD trait. So is scapegoat/golden child, if you had any siblings growing up. I hope this proves helpful for you, many people don't understand the disorder behind parents such as ours.

That does not sound like living at all. Merely existing. I feel bad for all of the women in the world currently living like this, or worse. I've seen the latter day saints dressed in this manner in my community, they always have an unusually happy demeanor, soft spoken, but one look in their eyes (most of the time) I can tell they're dying on the inside. Most (sane) hubbies don't want their wives dressed like Eskimos, they prefer some skin now and then, and keeping the spark alive, and most of said sane hubbies don't want a passive wife, neither. Passivity is a lack of color and personality. I say let it shine! And screw legalism.

Right-side abdominal pain by bunny1979in BabyBumps

yes I did have pain radiating down my leg as well... kind of like menstrual cramps, and here I am at 27 weeks. Pain is not always an indicator that something could be wrong, just could be part of pregnancy.

Should I tell my parents about my blood test? by ABThrowawayOin AskReddit

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

So if both my supposed parents are O, a known recessive allele, and I'm the only A in my sibling group (sisters are AB and O), is it a possibility that my real father could be an A as well? (cheating was known in my family, but we all belong to the same mother, we all know that there is a possibility for a different father for each of us) and only one of my sisters really belonged to our dad? Or is it possible that he did/didn't father us all? I am not too sure, I never heard of the H/h allele possibility back in biology class.

Pets & babies?! by Happy_Kittehin BabyBumps

Well, I have had a min pin around, and she adored My son when he first came into the world. It's like her motherly instinct took over and she tried "cleaning" him by licking his hair and face, and would come to his every cry and start licking his cheeks and and laying with him.

Now my mom's Great Dane wanted nothing to do with babies when I brought my son over. he actually thought he was food. my mom would keep him tied up, let him smell one of my son's socks, he tried to eat said sock. After a few visits and leaving my son's clothing near him to get a few good scents, the dog grew fond of him, and started being nice, then started protecting my son once he found out that babies aren't for eating. We had a river in the back yard, and my son started crawling towards it, I saw the Great Dane walk in front of him and kind of guide him away from the water using his nose to nudge him back towards safety.

Animals are good nurturers and very loving, but I know that any type of dog is unpredictable when the introduction comes.

Right-side abdominal pain by bunny1979in BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 3 points4 points ago

I had that with mostly my left side down near the belly button. It could be some implantation pain? I found out my placenta is anterior (on the front wall) and just a little to the left. It went away after week 6. I got round ligament pain early on (never dealt with that in previous pregnancies), as well, since this is the third baby and it's my body's way of telling me that this is the last one. Have you had any implantation bleeding/spotting? Of not, it could be an irritated uterine wall from the baby egg nesting in there.

Still feel like crap at 15 weeks, anyone else? by beanjarin BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

My crappy feeling didn't fully go away yet. The last time I threw up due to morning sickness was at 22 weeks. I get still nauseous with the smell of cooking meat, garbage, and cheese. Even though I have bursts of energy from time to time, I am starting to feel tired again and just want to sleep, but having a toddler, I have no nap options unless he's down for one himself. Then there's the insomnia at night. I haven't had much of that with my first two boys.... every pregnancy is different and everyone experiences it differently. Try some ginger tea and dry saltine/soda crackers to settle the nausea. It works amazingly.

How was your mother's day? by mrsobewanin BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 1 point2 points ago

Worked a 12 hour shift mother's day and the day before that. I work as a freelance salesperson in produce and floral sales, usually at roadside stands. Sales were through the roof at my stand, I sold out 3 times that day, having to call in for a rush delivery. It was sunny and hot out, and must have drank 2 gallons of water that day. People were nice for the most part, many guys were buying red roses by the dozen for their wives/gf. I saw many other preggers out there too, which a 5 minute conversation ensued inevitably about due dates, how many we've had, boy or girl, etc. I got home and hubby was laid out sleeping on the couch because my toddler was a handful for him that day, my little boy fast asleep in his room. He had chicken dinner with rice and veggies held warm in the oven for me. Then I went on Reddit.

Why are humans so bad at childbirth? by ProbablyOnTheToiletin askscience

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 26 points27 points ago

Well, fuck. I am getting a midwife for the rest of this pregnancy, since hospitals tell me to lay on the bed. When laying on my back in the hospital for my first two births, they had me pushing against the force of gravity, thus harder and more painful contractions were needed. Since you're a midwife, I have a question, if this pregnancy had a few scares and is now labeled low risk, can I start seeing a midwife rather than an obstetrician? Also I have an anterior placenta, if that will affect my getting a midwife.

Can Parents Be Arrested for Their Children Cutting School? by dustcirclein Parenting

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

Not in Canada... Not yet at least. Growing up, I was kept at home 3 days a school week to care for my younger siblings from grades 6 through 9, though I managed to pass my courses. Although many concerns from the school, the CPS and other authorities remained unconcerned about the chronic truancy. My family was dysfunctional, parents chronic drug users, and kept me home intentionally. No penalizing actions were taken.

Now in the case of kids choosing truancy, parents shouldn't be fined or jailed. The kids should be put in a program and face the consequences, whether it be community service for kids over the age of 14 after school hours (child labor laws stipulates that only 14 and up can work), or a talking to from the police, but in no way shape or form should the parents be punished because their child is skipping out, often without their knowledge. The parents who should be punished are the ones keeping children at home to be the housekeeper/nanny.

Commited relationships and strip clubs? by lady_pin relationships

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 1 point2 points ago

I think he think it's a trap, which in most cases is not. I go to strip clubs with and without my hubby. They aren't cheating with the strippers, they like a good show, and quite frankly strippers turn me on too. there's nothing wrong with it, and if your BF doesn't want to go, try asking him why not, besides the jealousy factor? Many people are jealous because of the media ideal, but tell him how uninhibited you are, tell him you're open minded and really, really, want to try at least once, and you are comfortable and secure with your relationship and comfortable in your own skin.

If I can be forgiven for jumping on the 'sick of dumb things on Facebook' bandwagon by i010011010in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

I loathe going on Facebook because of the abundance of pro-life stuff, including pics of abortion procedures, and subsequent comments. No, I don't need to see that stuff, I won't even touch on it when these threads appear. This video was about her choice to keep the baby, and the bleeding hearts used this for a pro-life campaign. That is all. If I found out my baby was going to be born with serious, painful disabilities, I would do what is right and ethical, for the baby's sake.

This pregnancy for me was super scary. My doc had me convinced that my daughter would be born with a severe form of Spina Bifida, and prompted me to abort without further testing. I opted for further testing, to make sure I was making the right decision. The thing is, the u/s pics were taken BEFORE the spine was properly fused and developed, and he made a diagnosis purely on that. It only took a few weeks, and the spine fused together properly. It was 3 weeks of hell having to face a possible second trimester abortion, until a VERY detailed spine scan and an amniocentesis revealed that everything was okay. No one expects to abort past the first trimester, but is sometimes necessary due to potential quality of life. I never used to understand that... and maybe that scare was a lesson to me, and a lesson well learned. It's ethical, merciful, and kind if the child to be is going to be in pain for a lifetime.

I commend her for being able to choose, and make such a hard decision. However, because she chose for the baby to be born, the pro-life jumped all over that. Had she chosen abortion, they would have demonized her for her choice.

Help with dealing with parents who fat shame? by nvrknowwhoin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 3 points4 points ago

Both my parents are like that. My mother was, and still is, morbidly obese (but somehow pro-ana), and shamed all of us girls into being skeletal. She bought us Seventeen Magazine when we reached adolescence, and told us to take an example from it, and be skinny at any cost (2 out of 3 of us became very underweight, started losing some of our hair), or we'll die alone. There is no way past the dirty looks, barrage of negative comments, etc. Some parents are like that, especially towards girls, and there's no way around that attitude. I would never bring that onto my own daughter.

Cutting off contact for you doesn't seem to be a choice, but I would say turn your room into a sanctuary, and even eat up there, because even as much as a dirty look from them causes a silent, unspoken thousand word tirade and a shattered self-esteem. That's what I had to do to semi-avoid the comments. I also went out for long walks, studied/did homework at coffee shops, and spent minimal time at home. I tried fighting back with my words, as in "look in the f@&%ing mirror, you're no prize yourself" and "why don't you concentrate on your own weight issues instead of the way I look", but it doesn't work. They went into rages.

Just work on yourself in a healthy way, get out as much as you can, and turn your bedroom into your own little bachelorette suite. Give them the silent treatment when you're around them, pretend you don't hear them when they get all negative. Bullies hate the silent treatment. When they comment on how much weight you lost, just tell them "Oh, now you love me? What made me unlovable before?". I hope this helps you out a bit, you shouldn't have to go into avoidance mode, but people like this seldom change. ((hugs))

How do I justify having sex at my age? by coconutkittyin sex

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

You don't need justification at 17. I believe that is a reasonable age, you just have to be vigilant about birth control, and research your options in the event of an unplanned pregnancy (don't get scared by the pro-life sites, avoid those ones, as they have NSFL pics, and disturb the hell out of me, which is their intention) I suggest if you want to be sure that you don't end up pregnant, you should opt for and IUD or implanon, both non-hormonal (won't cause many nasty side effects the pills do) and 99.9% effective, and reversible for when you are stable enough to have a child later on in your life if that's what you want.

Sex is a beautiful thing, and should be enjoyed by consenting parties, not for just mere reproduction, which is a stone-aged view on women and sexuality. Your body and all of its functions should be enjoyed. The side effect of sex may be pregnancy, but there is always a way to avoid it through contraception and a back-up method (condoms, spermicides), and of course plan B.

TL;DR; Having sex is not irresponsible, having irresponsible (read; unprotected) sex is irresponsible.

Women of reddit. Can you have an orgasm during sex? I heard a shocking statistic on the radio. by Nakedpoolboyin sex

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

It depends. Many women have to have clitoral stimulation to climax, which is why I love being on top, where I can kinda grind a bit. There are multiple giant nerve bundles concentrated in certain areas, sometimes up near the cervix, sometimes near the opening of the vagina (these aren't always a guarantee due to biological makeup, a lucky few have these extra bundles), but the clitoris is always guaranteed in most circumstances.

My girlfriend has never been to the gynecologist, and doesn't see a reason to. However, I think her smell might indicate otherwise. by BudsMcGreenziein sex

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

She may have a common infection, a bacterial overgrowth known as bacterial vaginosis. Many women get this. Also it may be a yeast infection. Every woman gets one at least once in their lifetime, especially when given a round of antibiotics. Every woman should have a yearly check-up, especially pap-smears once a year. Try telling her it's for her health, and that cervical cancer screening is necessary. It's a tough issue to bring up to anyone. If you want to bring it to her attention, have a conversation about sex, tell her the areas YOU would like to improve upon (like going down), then bring some of the road blocks up. I am sure she is aware of the odor if it's from an infection, and tell her in a loving, light way, that this may be an infection of some sort, a bacterial imbalance, that if left untreated, could lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, and you want her to be healthy. Good luck with this

I just got out of an abusive marriage, and started dating too soon. How can I fix this? by 391857in relationships

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 1 point2 points ago

Yes, this, exactly. I separated from my hubby a while back (back with him now, fixed our communication issues). I met a new guy who I thought was a real gentleman. He was kind, courteous, but tried to force cohabitation about two weeks in. I thought it wouldn't hurt if he stayed a few days a week, then it turned into every day for about a month. In that month, he obliterated my self-esteem, tried to get me drug-addicted. He got abusive, and insisted that he have a child with me. I kicked the loser out, needless to say. I would tread carefully when a guy insists on cohabitation less than 1 year into the relationship.

Question about gender determination in British Columbia, Canada by chilipeppers4uin BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

The only place I was not allowed to know the gender was in Abbostford, probably due to the ethnicity of the general population there and the bible belt (I'm not racist, just a theory) and they never mentioned a fee, they said they don't disclose gender due to policies. In Maple Ridge, I have been told the gender when I asked when sent to Medray Imaging in Coquitlam, and the Vancouver women's Hospital confirmed gender as well. I guess it depends on the area and the policy of the imaging departments. I have never been charged a fee of any kind. The only thing that's not covered by BC Medical is 3D ultrasounds, which costs $150 on average.
