We all did it... by Likezoinks1in pokemon

[–]Olgaar 2 points3 points ago

I chuckled because, "Hey it's true"... THEN I realized the face in the last frame was supposed to be the kid, not the dad. Cannot relate.

I've considered creating a subreddit called r/betterparentingthrupokemon. But I wonder if many parents actually play pokemon with their kids. Most people my age (32) didn't play pokemon. And, these days, most people younger than me don't have kids. Makes me sad, more parents should play pokemon with their kids.

Glad to see the 962 return. Have an emotional attachment to those.

My speakers are in need of an upgrade at some point. I've never really looked in to this speaker line before... but I love the look already. Looks like there is a dealer in town. Maybe I should go demo a set. They're rather reasonably priced.

I LOVE the look of white woofers against a dark wood grain. Very nice!

What game feels most like you're playing an episode of Star Trek: TNG? by balomusin Games

[–]Olgaar 1 point2 points ago

First, let me say Mass Effect (which has been mentioned several times already) has a very Star-Trek-esque feel to it and gets my first vote.

But I feel like mentioning that Star Trek Online is worth checking out. Before everyone down votes, because its not that great of a game and its not true to the character of the shows, let me point out that, it's free. It can be played completely and thoroughly without dropping a dime. So you have no risk by downloading it via Steam and giving it a try.

There's a LOT of combat. In fact that's nearly all there is. However, there are a few episode chains where they clearly made an effort to hold closer to the shows... less combat, more talking and technology, even a few problem solving puzzle events. Those are the mission chains which were added after the initial launch of the game and they're spread throughout the entire leveling process.

I like STO. I only play it occasionally and I've never leveled a character to the level-cap. I find it puts a smile on my face and the price is right!

Pike Peak Cog Railway is really nice--but a lil pricey ($35/person). Combine it with a walk around Garden of Gods or Red Rocks Canyon...

Is overclocking worth it? by avonwodahsin buildapc

Ah, I could be off, I'm not on that machine at the moment. It was weeks ago when I bumped it up, I could very well be remembering my clock incorrectly.

Is overclocking worth it? by avonwodahsin buildapc

[–]Olgaar 3 points4 points ago

I've done a lot of overclocking over the past 10 or so years. On my latest build (which is a couple years old now), I was more interested in stability and ease of maintenance, so I just didn't bother with overclocking it. And besides it was pumping out more than enough frames for what I had been playing at the time. (A very similar situation to the one you'll probably find yourself in).

Well I upgraded my GPU a couple months back to play Skyrim, but I was still a little dissapointed in the overall performance. Then it occurred to me! Now that I need the performance, might as well crank it up! And sure enough I bumped my 3Ghz Core2Duo to 4.3Ghz, on the stock heat sink and it really opened up the new GPU. I can run Skyrim at max settings with acceptable framrates. For $80 I can buy an aftermarket heatsink and I won't be surprised to hit 5Ghz. What it comes down to, is that $80 heatsink upgrade and associated overclock is going to save me from having to dump a bunch of cash in to a new MB, CPU, RAM set... at least for about another year or so.

Sorry about the long story, but it just seemed very applicable to your situation. I'd say grab the K model and overclock it, just for fun. If you get tired of the hassle (increased fan noise, possible/occasional crashes, etc) just crank it back to stock. But there WILL come a day when the ability to open up that chip will probably come in handy. And if you've already invested in a big aftermarket heatsink, it will only be a matter of flipping a few settings.

Pictures like this make me sad. Andre's disease left him in near-crippling joint pain. Lifting heavy things was actually awful for him. Don't get me wrong though, still a great picture!

Can I add a center channel to my existing stereo amp? by Torminalisin hometheater

[–]Olgaar 0 points1 point ago

El_Guapo_Taco makes the most important point of this discussion above. But you also asked about why that wiring setup might not work. Here's a link that explains some of the math behind the wiring setup you proposed and other comparable wiring schemes. But realize, that by bi-wiring the CC into the left and the right channel, you've effectively wired in 4 devices. (1) Left-channel, Left-speaker (2) Left-channel, Center-speaker (3)Right-channel, Right-speaker (4)Right-channel, Center-speaker. And regardless of your wiring scheme, each of those 4 devices all receive the same amount of power. The end result is your CC will be receiving twice as much power as either side channel. Everything would sound like it was coming out a mono, center channel.

That's not to say there will never be some situation where someone would want to do something like this. But it would require some creative engineering I imagine.

LastPass Update: Easier clipboard copying, fullscreen browsing, better notes by SquareWheelin windowsphone

[–]Olgaar 0 points1 point ago

Last Pass is SUCH a nice service, the WP app was one of my few dissapointments with the WP transition. Now it's effortless! I have to admit, LastPass takes a little setup and a little getting used to... but once it's up and running I find it MORE convenient than not using Last Pass. And when I get notified that a service I use has been hacked... I don't stress, I just change that one password. It's so easy. And recently I've realized I can use it to manage passwords for my kids (via 'Identities'). Since my kids are just getting to be old enough that want to use occaional online services, but can't remember a strong password. Just can't say enough good things about it.
