It's not like Fox's executives are all total dumbasses. Shows are cancelled based on production costs and viewer ratings, nothing more.

Reading the old process's state through the pipe is a bit morbid... as if your dad called you in the middle of the night to tell you the code to the wall safe, and somehow you know he's going to exit(0), and are powerless to stop it.

Nalo Hopkinson and Octavia Butler. They both had books about women, books dealing with racial and sexual identity and similar matters.

AFAIK it cannot serve connections, and can only connect to the originating domain. The Adobe documentation says as much.

He'd need some kind of client software for that, and looks like the main reason why ChatRoulette is so popular is that it runs in a browser.

Why do economists believe larger inequalities of wealth and income are beneficial to economies

I'm pretty sure they don't. The article doesn't claim that, either; it claims that economists justify "the process that creates inequality" and doesn't specify which process that is exactly.

Constant growth is not sustainable in a material world.

I have to agree with the comments in the article -- if this Eckelberry guy keeps the algae under artificial light, then his process must be a net energy loss.

I don't understand why they're worried about a Google monopoly on orphan, in-copyright books. Isn't any other company free to settle with the Authors Guild in their own way, and get its own license to digitize and commercialize these?

And, if not for Google, these books would've probably never even seen the light of the day. I know what option I'd choose, thank you very much.

That's a totally subjective and arbitrary goal. Nature or reality doesn't give a shit either way.

This could be said of any other goal. All values are subjective, that much is obvious. But most humans would agree that intelligence, strength and physical symmetry are positive traits, and that humanity would be better off adopting them (read: breeding for them). We don't have to look up to nature and try to divine its imperatives (at least I see no reason why we should), we make our own values.
