7 reasons to shred your wireless contract and switch to pre-paid by wimbetin Android

[–]OutsideObserver 1 point2 points ago

Yup. Drops to EDGE. Do a little googling and you'll find the highest speed anyone ever sees is ~0.07mbps. If you're always around wifi or don't use much data, it's not that big of a deal, but if you're a heavy pandora/phone caller using GrooveIP, it wouldn't be hard to go over pretty often.

Google Voice still routes calls over your mobile minutes (your phone calls google's servers, which forwards the call to the number you're calling, so your minutes are still taken up while talking).

This can be circumvented with apps like GrooveIP which will route the call over data first, contacting Google's servers and then completing the call like normal.

This is especially useful with a decent wifi network as GrooveIP "uses 1.2MB per minute" per their app description.

EDIT: for the math impaired, this amounts to a little over 4300 minutes not counting any other data usage for the $30 100 minutes, unlimited texting, 5GB 4G data plan on T-mo. When your data is throttled to 56kb/s, your connection may not be strong enough to maintain a phone call, as 56kb/s is equivalent to roughly .42MB/min

Try adding some crazy chopped up female vocals and epic trance breakdowns. That should get you all the bitches; well, hopefully at least one.

I hope the show comes full circle with Barney introducing Ted to his sister with "Have you met Ted?"

I am being forced to switch to an iPhone for work. I will be switching from a Galaxy Nexus. What am I going to miss from Android? What would you? by OutsideObserverin Android

[–]OutsideObserver[S] 0 points1 point ago

I would still be keeping the Nexus regardless. I'm saying maybe I should just buy a used iPhone and tether it to my Nexus for data. This would require me to leave tethering on all day though.

I'm almost seriously considering buying a used iPhone 4 to tether to my Nexus for the in-built GPS after all of these comments.

One of the things I'm trying to convince them of. I can tether to my nexus if needed. The problem is the app heavily relies on GPS as well.

What is the best non-sexual feeling? by raVensc2in AskReddit

That feeling when you're really hungover or high and you order like 6 Jack-in-the-box tacos and you are eating them and you think you're finished but you pick up the bag to throw it away and there's one left.

And two hot sauces.

If you could get rid of one social custom what would it be? by JackPhilbyin AskReddit

[–]OutsideObserver 2 points3 points ago

What about when something typically is your thing, but you're just not in the mood to do it?

For example I get invited out to drinks, I'm tired, decide not to go, but I can't say "That's not my scene" because I do it fairly often. If I don't feel like doing it I should be able to say "I don't feel like doing it" without most of society being offended.

What do you think are some fundamental truths about humanity that extend across cultures, countries, and continents. Bonus Points: Simpler the better by strongoin AskReddit

The way I've always described it is not necessarily selfishness, but a flaw of perception. We can only ever make decisions in the guise of "how is this going to affect me". We will always make the decision that we perceive as "best at the time". Even for stuff we know is wrong in the long-run, IE smoking, drinking, unprotected sex, etc. We make decisions based on our feelings in the present.

In the past 48 hours I have: been mugged (out $200 and gained a black eye), nearly died from anaphylaxsis and just got home from work to find an email from my doctor saying my cervical cancer is back. A while back I lost my job (I knew it was coming, as it was a temp job but I loved it anyway, and it was sooner than I expected), and while I was driving home, my engine blew. Turns out it was burning oil off and the oil light was broken (it was an old car) so only 1k miles since my last change and it was running on half a quart. Got a friend to tow me home, only to get a call from my ex (not at the time though) that she was going to a party, and I could come if I wanted to but "it's a bunch of people from work and you probably wouldn't like them" so I didn't go.

The next day I found out she made out with one of the guys she worked with. Packed my bags, and left 3 days later to live with my Mom and go back to school.

It gets better though! Or sometimes it doesn't. But that's life.

You're locked in a room in an unarmed fight to death with the last person you searched on the internet. How would you fare? by flohammed_albrosephin AskReddit

Last person I searched for on the internet was a customer with a funny name that ended up being a gigantic fat lady. I would win no problem by walking around in circles while she followed me and eventually had a heart attack.
