With the release of Diablo 3, what is your view on "Always Online" DRM? by zuyxin truegaming

[–]RangerSix -1 points0 points ago

No, I'm using it the way the general gaming community uses it.

Take a look at sites like GameBanana, ModDB, and other game-modding sites. What do you find there? Things like:

  • Character reskins
  • Weapon reskins
  • User-created game campaigns
  • User interface modifications

What will you not find there?

  • Exploits
  • Hacks
  • Cheat programs

Nice try at salvaging your argument, though. Are you a pro-"Always On DRM" shill or something? Because, really, that's the only reason I can think of for anyone to try to redefine common terminology.

You keep using that word, "semantics".

I don't think it means what you think it does.

It's not semantics, it's how most gaming communities I'm familiar with use the terminology.

Congratulations on living up to your name, though.

I was using it as a general term to describe any modification.

a general term to describe any modification.

And therein lies the problem, because this lumps "good" mods (such as weapon reskins, simplified user interfaces and community-developed mission packs [e.g., the "Emerald Dawn" mod for the original Command & Conquer or the "Mental Omega" mod for Yuri's Revenge]) in with exploits, hacks, and cheats.

If a game modification is designed solely to give one player (or one group of players) an unfair advantage over others, it's not a mod.

It's a CHEAT.

Period, full stop, end of fucking line.

Good FPS Boss Fights by DBones90in truegaming

[–]RangerSix 0 points1 point ago

The Spider Mastermind was a pretty easy boss to defeat; all you had to do was lure it into one corner, and then scoot on over to the next corner over.

Line yourself up so you can just see the Spider Mastermind past one of the walls and unload rockets/BFG shots/plasmagun rounds/etc. into it, and you can defeat it without taking much (if any) damage.

Do you see point-and-click games in the style of Myst and the latter Zork games ever coming back into style? by TheBlueHefnerin truegaming

[–]RangerSix -1 points0 points ago

Well, I bring them up mainly because they're told from a Myst-like first-person perspective.

They're kind of creepy, though - and the second game in the series involves a lot of temporal shenanigans.
