Hammer Throw by MyNewPantsin ultimate

[–]SenseiCAY 0 points1 point ago

Firstly, make sure that you're not practicing a hammer without knowing when to use it. Don't get lazy and start throwing hammers when a backhand would suffice, especially when you're breaking the mark.

Secondly, I wouldn't worry about trying to throw it for distance. Unless your name is Brodie Smith, hammers are rarely thrown as full-field hucks.

All that being said, try changing your release point and angle, both the angle at which the disc leaves your hand and the angle at which the disc is tilted when you throw it. If you release it too flat, then it doesn't go anywhere. If you release it too vertical, then it'll blade and never turn over. You generally want your hammer to get to the receiver as quickly as possible, so you don't want the throw to go too high. You want to throw a line drive.

Does the progression of knives used tell any story about you doing (or rather, not doing) the dishes?

I see a steak knife, another steak knife, a few butter knives, and then, finally, a paring knife.

Seriously, though, looks delicious. What does a fiddlehead taste like?

Ten Years Ago Today: Mark Prior's Debut vs. PIT--6IP, 4H, 2R, 10K by cgiall420in Cubs

[–]SenseiCAY 0 points1 point ago

Of course I remember the wild pitch, but that was such a small thing.

Really, he should have been out of the game after the 1-out double.

Furthermore, if Gonzalez comes up with the double play ball, that retires the side and it's 3-1. Big deal.

If Gonzalez doesn't convert the double play and gets only one out, then the go-ahead sac fly is instead the 3rd out.

18-6 in the regular season in 2003, 3rd in Cy Young voting in his first full year. 10-1 after the All-Star break. Tell me, with a straight face, that the Cubs win the division without him.

7+ scoreless innings in game 6.

What followed was a combination of Gonzalez failing to field a potential double play ball, Dusty Baker leaving him in for too long, and, to a much lesser extent, the Bartman play.

Go back to your corner.

House rule to reduce the penalty of going last (especially in 4+ player) by landryraccoonin dominion

I don't like it very much. I usually play 3 or 4 players, which allows for 12 provinces (I haven't gotten the Colony expansion yet), so everyone has an equal chance to buy provinces (i.e. it's possible to split the provinces equally). What I do to even out the game is to force everyone to start with the same hands as everyone else, so everyone's first two turns start with the same number of coins. You are not required to buy the same things, but this way, it prevents someone from getting, for example, a Chapel and a Laboratory on the first two turns while everyone else ends up with an inferior 3-4 draw.

Who was at fault for this minor accident? Details inside. by SenseiCAYin AskReddit

[–]SenseiCAY[S] 0 points1 point ago

I didn't think it would be worth it to get the police involved (given the amount of damage done).

I probably could have chosen a better place to stop the car, in retrospect, but I stopped where I did because it was right next to a stairwell, and I could minimize the amount of walking that my passengers had to do. I was only there to drop people off, so it's not like I stopped my car, got out, and left it there for any extended period of time.

What causes the "friend zone" situation? Is it simply delaying physical escalation? by elfgodin askseddit

[–]SenseiCAY 3 points4 points ago

There's a few ways to describe it, I guess.

The first thing that comes to mind is the case of a "nice guy" trying to win a girl over by being nice rather than making his intentions known from the get-go. He waits too long and gets too close to the girl before actually making his interest known by asking her on a date, or worse, simply admitting that he has a crush on her. By then, the girl thinks that the guy either isn't interested in anything, or simply didn't have the confidence to display his intentions immediately. Either way, it almost never escalates beyond friendship, and the guy is confused because he thought that the girl was displaying interest (and she may have been doing so early on) but ultimately rejected him because she now sees him as a friend and a friend only. Generally, he doesn't see that his "niceness" was really a disguise for an ulterior motive.

The other method is to make your interest known early on (i.e. wanna go out with me?), but for whatever reason, she's not interested to begin with and prefers to be friends. For the most part, you don't hear about these "friendzone situations" because the guys who end up here aren't the ones to bitch and moan about it. They're generally able to engage women in social situations and can thus move on easily because there are, in fact, plenty of fish in the sea.

So...to answer your questions:

Is it that they don't physically escalate, and if so, what draws them to the conclusion that they've been friend zoned? Do they try to physically escalate, and then are rejected?

Both. Like I described. I've personally done both, and it feels a lot better in the second situation than the first.

What if a guy was platonic friends with a girl for a while, and then physically escalated? Is it more likely that they'd be rejected than if they go for it from the getgo? What would happen?

This is usually what happens in the first situation, although interest may develop over time in a friendship. What would happen? There's no formula, so lots of things can happen. Most of the time, nothing ever develops because neither wants to ruin the friendship. Sometimes, one person takes a shot and asks for a date, and sometimes, it ends up working out, but a majority of the time, this is not the case.

Well, the answer to your edited question, of whether women like big guys, is yes. Some might feel intimidated by someone who is 6'11", but then again, I think a girl who is 6'2" and fit is extremely sexy.

I guess what I mean about trimming your beard is that I'm not a fan of the neckbeard in general. Your hair is nice in that picture, but even if you got the beard trimmed, that doesn't mean that it suits you that well. I dunno. I can't personally grow a beard (like...I can't physically do it) so I don't know much about the topic.

You probably shop at "big people" stores, but when you have a chance, I'd invest in one really nice "going out" shirt. Mine cost no more than $30.

Anyhow...my final thoughts are that you may weigh 345 pounds, but you're also 6'11", and the 345 doesn't look that bad on you. It's not like you're spilling out of your clothes. You're not bad looking, and you have potential. Good luck and have fun out there.

I'm sure most men do worse online than in real life, but when I hear about guys having 40-50% of their messages getting replies (admittedly higher than average, but I hear that average is something like 10-20%), I start to wonder what the difference is.

[–]SenseiCAY 2 points3 points ago

Guy here. You're not a bad looking dude, and you have the potential to be a pretty good looking dude with a bit of effort.

First of all, I'd say do something about the neck beard. I think the shape of your head suggests that you could probably rock some facial hair, but definitely trim the beard so that it looks cleaner. The way it looks now, you look like you just rolled out of bed.

Speaking of which, by the way, how old are you? If you're out of school (heck, even if you're still in school), I'd definitely change the outfit as well. It's probably pretty hard to find stuff in your size (6'11"...geesh...what I would give to be anywhere near that...). When you go out (party, club, wherever), it's good to groom yourself and dress like you're proud of yourself. The jeans are fine, but pair it with a nice shirt or something. I like the hairstyle in the second picture. Good grooming and fashion are a sign of confidence.

I actually live in the DC area, so it's a fairly large and diverse area.

My reply rate is really 0%. I message anyone that is interesting and attractive to me, which, I guess, means that I'm mostly messaging people that get a lot of messages. I'm mostly attracted to white girls, but I've dated other races in the past. For some reason, an Asian girl that others might consider pretty cute can be "meh" to me.

As far as receiving messages goes, I've gotten a total of three. One was from a friend that found me on the side, another was from someone several states away who liked my picture, and the last was from someone in whom I was not interested.

Asian guy here. I'm sort of in the same boat; like you, I am practically white (I moved to the U.S. at age 3 and I'm now 25). I find myself fairly attractive, and I take pretty good care of myself (5'11", 175 lbs, plays sports, takes showers regularly).

Most women, if you ask them, will say that they're open to dating people of other races, but my reply rate on OKC is literally 0%, even though, from what others have said, I'm not coming off as unattractive from the initial message alone (i.e. too eager, needy, etc.). I'll message anyone without regard to what I perceive to be their racial preferences. If I'm otherwise interested, I'll shoot a message.

That being said, when I'm in the real world, I don't have that much trouble meeting women and I've slept with, dated, or been in relationships with quite a few white women, one black woman, and no Asians.

I think that there's an unspoken (or maybe it is spoken) stereotype that Asians and Indians are less masculine and more asexual than our White and Black counterparts, and perhaps less physically attractive as well, and it takes a real-world meeting with someone in order to shed that stigma. Or...I guess you could send a sexy first message on OKC...I dunno...I haven't tried that path yet.

What is your "never again" brand, item, store, or restaurant ? by radbrad7in AskReddit

[–]SenseiCAY 0 points1 point ago

Most of the stories are worse than mine, but I'll tell it anyway.

I was a poor unemployed college kid, and I was selling some of my video games on eBay for a little bit of extra cash until school started again and I would have a job. Some bitch in California bought a game and paid for it, and then asked to return it when she realized that she had a Wii and the game was a PS2 game (the fact that this was a Playstation 2 game was clearly noted on the advertisement). I mentioned this, along with the fact that I had taken quite a loss on shipping, since UPS apparently charges extra for middle-of-nowhere deliveries, and that it was completely her fault for not reading the auction.

She sends the game back to me, anyway, and I have to eat that shipping cost as well. Paypal makes me refund her money after I appeal her decision, and she leaves me a negative feedback, to which I couldn't respond, since eBay seemed to have removed that feature to prevent "retaliatory feedback." Haven't used Paypal and eBay together since then.

Card Discussion: Apothecary by WheresMyElephantin dominion

[–]SenseiCAY 0 points1 point ago

So far, Alchemy has been a bit underwhelming. We only played one game, and we probably didn't get the full effect of the potions and alchemy cards.

When I got Seaside, the roommates and I picked out 5 or 6 interesting cards (Embargo and Sea Hag being among these) and then randomized the rest from the base set and Intrigue.

We just randomized our board this time, and only got Philosopher's Stone and Scrying Pool from Alchemy. Philosopher's Stone was sort of "meh" and Scrying Pool was put to good use because Scout was also drawn. Then again, on two consecutive turns, one of my roommates had to trash a Philosopher's Stone due to a Saboteur, and then had to discard another one from my Scrying Pool.

Card Discussion: Apothecary by WheresMyElephantin dominion

[–]SenseiCAY 0 points1 point ago

This actually combos well with Scrying Pool ($2+P), I think:

Scrying Pool: +1 action. Each player (including you) reveals the top card of his deck and either discards it or puts it back, your choice. Then, reveal cards from the top of your deck until you reveal one that is not an Action. Put all of your revealed cards into your hand.

So if you use Apothecary and pick up the coppers and potions, and then replace the actions on top of your deck, you can maximize the effect of Scrying Pool. You actually mention Scout somewhere in the comments, and Scout makes this even more effective, it seems. In fact, I played my first game with Alchemy cards tonight and I got a Scout-Scrying Pool combination, which allowed me to have a couple of pretty good turns. I'd imagine that being able to examine and rearrange more cards would help Scrying Pool even more.
