My friends were at this. I am glad I couldn't attend. The only way i see this as the cops' fault: they didnt announce over some loud speaker and/or mega phone to everybody to disperse etc etc. Even then, I am pretty sure it's hard to hear warnings around multiple DJs and Bands plus the roar of 8,000 drunk college people in a small area. All the people complain about the police escalating the situation farther than it had to be. Yet, the "rioting crowd" was throwing bottles and lighting dumpsters on fire. Smart. Truely.
