A 45 year old co-worker told me that when his organization started using email years ago, he required his personal secretary to print all his emails out at the end of each day. He'd review them, hand-write his response on the email printout, then have her type an email response the next day.

Getting into target shooting/first gun suggestions by fireflare260in Firearms

Asking which gun you should buy first is kind of like saying "I want to learn to repair engines. Which tool should I buy first?" There's a lot of nuance and detail that goes into selecting the right "tool" for your situation.

Many people recommend starting with a .22lr handgun, but I'd say you should consider a .22lr rifle. It's more easy to shoot accurately and you could take an Appleseed course to learn marksmanship.

Not a stupid question. It's legal under federal law, but restricted under some states' laws.

It's not "hard to acquire legally" a machine gun.

If you can

  1. legally own a gun,
  2. legally own machine guns in your state,
  3. fill out an ATF form and write a $200 check,
  4. wait about half a year, and
  5. Drop AT LEAST $4,000 on a gun,

Then you can own a machine gun.

When you buy her flowers, send them to her at work.

Flowers at home get seen by almost no one. Flowers at work make other women jealous.

Because you specified only accuracy as a criteria.

For a the task of concealed carry, precision accuracy is perhaps a top-10 consideration (assuming that the pistol provides at least passable accuracy).

For carry, I'd consider the following attributes to be more important than extreme accuracy:

  • Dimensions and shape
  • High capacity
  • Good self-defense caliber
  • Reliability with hollow-point ammunition
  • Availability of proper holsters
  • Proper positioning of controls (mag release, slide release)
  • Type of safety (or lack thereof, depending on one's preferences and training)
  • Night sights
  • Reasonable self-defense trigger (not too heavy or light)

Does this clarify what I meant?

What is, in your opinion, the most ridiculous gun law? by fluffy402in guns

[–]Traveshamockery27 2 points3 points ago

My favorite was the law Ohio had for awhile (and may still have) prohibiting concealed carry in a restaurant where anyone is drinking alcohol. Not YOU, just someone on the premises.

This meant you could enter a restaurant after confirming no one was drinking, sit down for a meal and eat in complete compliance with the carry law. Then, someone could enter, buy a beer, and you're suddenly violating the law because another dude wanted a drink with his meal.

I disagree. The best gun is the one that fits the required task.

For combat or self-defense use, a gun that shoots 4" groups at 25 yards but is dead-nuts reliable is preferred over a fancy competition gun that needs constant maintenance to stay running.

Conversely, that 4" grouping gun would be miserably unsuited for a bullseye competition.

All conversations about "which gun is best" are pointless unless they're wrapped in the larger consideration of the task at hand.

The primary objection to the grip safety is that you can't do one-handed malfunction clearance drills.

I've also read numerous accounts of the XD's grip safety getting gummed up in more advanced classes where you're rolling around in the dirt, mud, and rain.

I don't think that's a big deal for civilian use, but the above reasons are legitimate for certain applications.

Disclosure: I just sold my XD, and I'm standardizing on the M&P platform.

Wow, those XD prices are crazy-high. SlickDeals regularly has deals posted for XDs under $400. Palmetto State Armory has them on sale now for $399.
