What did school teach you that was blatantly false once you researched it on the Internet? by peetssin AskReddit

This is fucked up for many reasons but the most fucked up being that the teacher didn't have the humility to admit she was wrong to a group of 4th graders.

I used to tour manage bands. The bands I've toured with have played anywhere from bowling alleys and house shows to large theaters and amphitheaters. When I first started touring, we were playing a show in upstate NY at a bowling alley. The band and I were at a KFC and surprisingly, some cute girls were working. They noticed we weren't from there and we told them we were in a band and that they should come to the show. We said we could put them on our guest list. We exchanged numbers. A bit later, we got a text from them, "Hey, do you think we will be able to get front row? Also, will we be allowed backstage or will security not let us?"

To save ourselves the embarrassment, we just told them it was cancelled.

This thread isn't going to work if you limit it to "non-fictional". It's just going to be the same ten boxers or MMA fighters.

I had a conversation with a former friend of mine, and he told me that "If you ain't getting bitches, you ain't successful". What things have people told you that caused your respect for that person to completely disappear? by Anti-Matter333in AskReddit

I've discussed this on Reddit multiple times but I really don't want to say to protect my reputation, as well as his. I don't think the majority of Reddit would know who it was but they routinely sold out venues that had capacities of around 1,200.

I used to tour manage an artist. I was 19 (I had decent connections) and was making around $1500 USD a week. The artist hated doing interviews and it was basically a task to get him to go from the green room/bus to where he would be interviewed. One day I asked him why he hated doing them, he just said, "I just don't like it. It's that simple. But these fucktard kids are still going to buy my music so I'll do it."

Also, I had to go pick up his girlfriend from an airport while she was in town. They had an amazing weekend together in Seattle. The next week, he was cheating on her in Nebraska. I asked him why and he just said, "She's not going to find out."

What's your softest game? by IMA_grinderin poker

[–]americanslang59 0 points1 point ago

My friend's home game. It's either $.50/1 NLHE or a $20 SnG with 9 players. Strangely, these were the guys who got me into poker. I end up getting very interested in things very quickly and decided to extensively research poker, game theory, mathematics regarding poker, and strategy. I've probably played 30 SnGs with them and have cashed (1st gets $130, 2nd $50) in about 25-27 of them; I've never really kept track. Out of a dozen or so cash games, I have left with at least 2 buy ins.

It's just a table full of calling stations. You will rarely see a 3 or 4 bet but if you do, get the fuck out of there. There is a girl that will never play unless she has a massive hand so get the fuck out of there if that happens. My best friend WILL call to the river and then, almost all of the time, muck on the river. He will always see a flop, no matter what. He has openly stated this. If I can get him heads up before the flop, I will bet like 8x BB with anything better than A-J. I have gotten him to call an all in with about 75 BBs when he had Q-3 and I had KK. I've actually only seen him fold pre-flop once and that's out of 30 SnGs and 12 cash games. Holy shit, as I am typing it out, I am realizing how ridiculous this game is. I've folded K-6 and then after the hand, said what I had and everybody ridiculed me because "that was a good hand!"

Also, none of them understand levels in a SnG. When I first started playing with them, they wouldn't raise blinds until someone was out. So the games would go on for around 6 hours. I remember playing one from 8 pm til 5 am. After I started playing at a local room and online, I introduced it to them. They said that "it doesn't make sense." But we eventually went with it. The SnGs are usually deep stacked; 45 minute levels and you start out with 250 BBs.

Darvin Moon got in trouble for this. I can't find a link but it's floating around somewhere.

I think the actual rule is that if it's checked to you, you must bet. You can check to an opponent.

What are some of the hidden perks of your job? by Darth_Mikein AskReddit

[–]americanslang59 1 point2 points ago

I've been playing poker full time for the past year and a half.

Perks: I usually eat for free due to comps in the room I play at. I get to make my own hours. I get to meet extremely interesting people. I'm my own boss, which is possibly the best perk. And if I want, I can drink on the job.

Hope I'm not late to the party. I was 16 and just got my license. I ended up meeting this girl randomly (At an acting conference) and she came to see my improv group. We went out on a few dates and immediately clicked and started to date. This was in January of that year. Things go amazingly and we fall head over heels. She was older than me and had to move away for school. We tried the long distance thing but I didn't want to hold her back so we stopped "officially" dating. Time goes on and we are still seeing each other. As time went forward, we saw each other less and less but we still cared for each other very much; We were each other's first loves and we took each other's virginity.

About a year and a half down the road, we only see each other maybe once every 6 weeks. We made plans to hang out one night after she got off work. (She had moved back to my city) She was supposed to call me at 9 pm and we were going to hang out around 10 pm. So, it's 9 pm and she hasn't called. "Well, she's never on time, right?" 9:15 - She hasn't called. 9:30 - Nothing. 10 pm - "You should just call her." I call her and no answer. Us making plans was the second to last time I have ever talked to her.

About a year later, I was in the city she went to college. I was hammered with some friends and walked to their neighbor's house for a party. I swore I saw her and her friend (Who I knew) pointing at me. I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything. The next day, I texted her asking if she was in that city. "No."

Two years later, I find out that it was her house that we went to.

Favorite Suns moment? I'll start. by erosewaterin PhoenixSuns

I don't even remember the game or anything but two years ago, there was a Suns playoff game (Not sure against who) but in the 4th, they put Dragic in. Dragic ends up just shitting all over their opponents. He was just absolutely wrecking them. The arena was explosive, my friends and I were freaking out. The announcer just said, "Viewers, you are witnessing Goran Dragic become a hero in Phoenix right now."

I don't mean for this to be a slight on LA at all but you guys handled things much better this year than last year in the playoffs. Played with much more class. Sure MWP did some questionable things (The thing where he patted Harden on the head tonight sticks out)but nothing even close to Bynum's foul last year in game 4.
