Wire-to-Wire Reds. Story of the 1990 WS champs.

This might be a dumb question, but... how does it work when teams switch Minor League affiliates? by stabbedabbein baseball

[–]arbysguy 13 points14 points ago

The players belong to the organization so when the Reds changed from the Carolina Mudcats to the Pensecola Blue Wahoos last off-season all of the Reds minor leagues also changed teams, but are still property of the Reds.

Also the minor leagues are filled with both NL and AL teams and all of them use the DH. I believe at the higher levels (AA and AAA) the teams can opt to let their pitchers hit if they are both property of NL teams.

And the worst shooters of 2012 are... by akm0921in nba

Its funny that Granger and Jason Terry are on both the worst and best shooter list.

Is this what /r/sports has become? Just take the top topic from /r/baseball, /r/nba, and /r/nfl and repost it a day later?

I don't think Phil Jackson would have gone into the stands to prevent Ron Artest from getting into a fight. There is an advantage to both sides.

Teams that win have more revenue

Teams that are in big markets and have big TV deals have more revenue.

No, I don't think so. Look at Philadelphia's attendance this year. Their World Series from a few years ago is still paying off.

It was a joke though.

Once again. The Yankees can sign a big name free agent have it not work out but still be in fine shape. If a smaller market team misses on one of those deals you get the Cincinnati Reds Ken Griffey Jr era.

I'm not even touching your can't vs. won't argument, but I hope you are not a business major.

Reds can only afford one or two big money guys, Yankees can have half a team of them.

And for you such as.

What about the Indians losing Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia?

What about the Rays losing Kazmir, Garza, and Crawford?

There are a multiple examples of this every year.

Is anyone else excited for the VCU Butler rivalry once they join the A-10 together? Richmond is the same city as VCU and will be playing eachother more too. Such great rivalries in the A-10 in the near future. by KillaMavsin CollegeBasketball

[–]arbysguy 3 points4 points ago

They are both great basketball programs, but I don't get as excited about "rivalries" between teams that are 11 hours apart. No chance for visiting fans to make the trip, no familiarity between fans, etc.

10 of the last 11 World Series winners were from the top half of the league in salary. Nope, no correlation here.

Lots of teams have great homegrown talent that they can't afford to hold onto after their arbitration years are over.

Three of those 4 teams have won titles in the last 5 years. All that means is that the high payroll paid off initially and now a lot of their guys with mega deals are a little passed their prime.

The mega deals will expire in a couple years and they'll go out and overspend on other guys. They will contend for a World Series for a few years before slightly dropping off and starting the cycle over again.

Crosstown Shootout to be played on neutral court after Dec. brawl. by kerryoakiein CollegeBasketball

This is stupid. The players caused the brawl, not the fans. I don't see what moving it downtown will accomplish, except for killing the atmosphere.

Its a traffic violation. Its not like he is going to miss any games or anything.

AskNBA - Who are today's most fortunate/unfortunate NBA stars? by TeddySpatchin nba

[–]arbysguy 0 points1 point ago

You are wrong on the Cavs. Look at what Larry Hughes did before he got to Cleveland, he was a rising star in the league, he just didn't mesh with LeBron and had some injury problems. Ilgauskas was a 2-time all-star and one of the best Centers in the game. Varejao is one of the best defending big men in the NBA, former 2nd team all NBA Defense.

They were the deepest team in the league. So deep that guys like Shannon Brown and Danny Green who have had big roles on championship level teams couldn't even find any playing time for Cleveland.

[–]arbysguy -1 points0 points ago

Have Anthony or Haywood ever been 2nd team all NBA Defense? Because Varejao has.

I just got here and I can't speak for everyone who downvoted but every other photo in this thread seems to be showing players either in complete joy or agony, or a big play in action. I am admittedly not sure of the context behind this photo, but it just looks like some guys going for a rebound making stupid faces.
