Are black markets creating unreported jobs in Spain, Greece, Ireland, and Portugal? by executivemonkeyin europe

[–]blue1_ 1 point2 points ago

in Italy higher taxes and less jobs are, in my opinion, making the black market grow, despite the tighter controls. Overall, however, work and money are scarce.

'One Nation (under Germany)' - Historian Niall Ferguson predicts the single currency will survive and the crisis will leave Berlin heading a federal Europe by amaxenin europe

[–]blue1_ 1 point2 points ago

But if you create a federal republic of Europe

considering that some member states are monarchies, I doubt it will be called a federal republic.

on the other hand, we could elect a new emperor instead. Europe has been missing one for some time.

This idea of parallel currencies is apparently gaining traction. For example, the new mayor or Parma, Italy, is talking about introducing a local currency.

think what you want of exorcists, but the very fact that Amorth is declaring something so explicit is rather strange for vatican customs.

Is there really austerity in Europe? by bmw120kin politics

In Italy, austerity means "even more taxes". Spending has not been significantly reduced, because that's the matter on which political power feeds.

I am not speaking of languages only. In a system that evolves, diversity leads to a system that is less efficient but has more possible directions for evolution (so, for example, it's more resilient, but that does not apply to languages).

Well, ok. But I wrote that "remember" because Windows 7, unlike the older software, has more sensible shortcuts. For example, after years of suffering, like the rest of the civilized world we finally can enjoy ctrl-A for "select all" instead of the old nationally correct "ctrl-5-on-keypad".

It seems to me that massive global exchange of information leads to more standardization and less diversity, generally. I don't have data on this, but I suspect that there are more languages dying than emerging, now. This has certainly practical benefits in the short run, but I am not sure in the long run, as the evolutive potential is restricted.
