Opinions on jeans please by astrofox8in malefashionadvice

If you're trying to save dough then head to Jackthreads and try the Goodale raw selvedge they have there as it's $50. Size down 1. I wish they had them in 30; the size 31 pair I have were fine at first, but are too baggy now, and I think 29 would be too small. If you don't have an account there please let me know so you can use my referral link? I would post it here, but I don't think that's allowed. If you don't plan on using mine, at the very least check the referral thread on the sidebar and give someone the credit. :)

I need some new jeans, that don't look terrible, but I'm a poor teenager. by MrDrProfessorAwesomein malefashionadvice

Sign up for Jackthreads. They have sales on some pretty good raw and/or selvedge jeans sometimes. The Goodale Selvedge jeans they have on there are actually pretty good, but you should size down 1; I bought TTS and they fit well at first, but now they're a bit baggy.

Edit: If you do plan on joining message me please? I'd be eternally grateful if you used my referral link. I'm not posting it here because I don't think that's allowed on this subreddit. If you don't plan on using mine, at the very least check the referral thread on the sidebar and give someone the credit. :)

Has anyone ever tried making their own suit? If so, how did it turn out? by nonoriginalnamein malefashionadvice

[–]cgdz 6 points7 points ago

Please note that it will get expensive. It starts to get cheaper as you go along because you'll already have all the tools and extra material, but make no mistake... the first suit will likely not be great and will be expensive.

I'm getting into making shirts and I already have a good sewing machine, some threads, and a small workstation, but I can tell already that it's going to cost me a pretty penny to make my first shirt. I can't even begin to imagine how expensive it'd be to make a full suit.

E.g. I just looked up the price for interlining canvas (hair interlining) and it's 1.5 - 3.5$ per meter... and the minimum order is 1000 meters. That's 1.5 grand right there. I couldn't find a smaller minimum order.

Uh... no.
While the pronunciation of Italian may be similar to Spanish, the Italian lexicon is way different from Spanish. Portuguese has a much more similar lexicon to Spanish although pronunciation is very different. E.g. (IT) Uccello vs. (SP) pajaro vs. (PT) passaro. This is why native Spanish speakers can find it easy to read written Portuguese by using context clues and some guesswork, but find it really difficult to listen to.
There are way more Spanish speakers than Italian speakers.
Edit: If you were to relate Italian to another language, it'd probably be most similar to French. E.g. (FR) oiseau vs. (IT) uccello

It's a regional variation, but it's not limited to TX. I'd say it's limited more to northern Mexico. A lot of places have their own way of pronouncing "ll," there are variations even within countries themselves. E.g. Argentines from the Buenos Aires have the well-known "sh" sound when they pronounce "ll" whereas Argentines from Cordoba pronounce it as "y" (the gringo-y way as you say); a Porteño will say "shamar" and a Cordoban will say "yamar." Same thing in Colombia; Bogotanos will add an English hard "j" sound in front of the "y" so it sounds like "jyamar," whereas Costeños will say "yamar" (like the gringo-y way).

You could get away with not pronouncing it as 'th' since they pretty much only do that in Spain. Latin american countries do "seseo" instead of the Spanish "ceceo."

Great, cheap, slim v-neck tees on clearance at Kohl's. by cgdzin frugalmalefashion

[–]cgdz[S] 0 points1 point ago

They're selling for $5.76 right now. I bought a few to test them out and they fit perfectly. I usually find medium a bit too large and small just too small, but I got these in a medium and they were just right. They feel great too, very smooth.
There's also a 15% off code CUPID15 and 20% off with CUPID20 if you spend more than $100. Also, don't forget to shop through Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall for an extra 10pts/$ (or use your own rewards center for points).

If you can hold off a bit, sign up for Jackthreads and PLNDR. I recently bought some raw selvedge by Goodale (size down one. I'm 31, but 30 fits me better with this brand) on Jackthreads and they've been wearing in great. I can't attest to the quality on PLNDR, but I do see they offer raw selvedge from time to time (Mishka and Sabit mostly).

First suit, how's it look? by sthubbinsin malefashionadvice

[–]cgdz 1 point2 points ago

Oddly enough Alan Flusser has the exact opposite opinion with regards to showing cuff in Dressing the Man. Short man, less cuff showing; tall man, more cuff showing. His point being you want to extend the unbroken lines from the shoulder as much as possible when short and shorten the lines as much as possible when very tall.

Who uses the so-called "private" shopping sites? by HouseOfKrazeesin frugalmalefashion

Be careful with MyHabit, sometimes you can find stuff they offer cheaper elsewhere. They occasionally have actual good deals though.

[–]cgdz 1 point2 points ago

Jackthreads has my vote. Can't beat raw selvedge for 50 bucks. MYHABIT somtimes has good stuff, but not often. PLNDR is pretty damn good for cheap stuff if you're more into a street vibe (hypebeast and the like), I only wish they included what material their products are made out of. Gilt, Rue La La, Hautelook and Beyond the Rack are all doodoo.
