My friend took a shit on me and now I understand the meaning of life. by put_in_da_trashin philosophy

In one's last days, it won't matter how many girls they fucked

Disagreed. Dying as a virgin would suck (as long as it is not intentional e.g. being a nun)

In around 120 years, every person currently alive will be dead, and the earth will be completely populated with people that have not yet been born. What other inevitable facts about the future do you think about? by diddletapflamdiddlein AskReddit

I am pretty sure that was already a well known fact in some rural parts of my country for centuries. Also donkeys, cats, chickens, dogs...

Dell Vostro V131. It cost me 450 dollars(tax+shiping), it came with ubuntu installed (no windows tax). It is 3.8 pounds and its battery lasts easily more than 6 hours! It has i3 processor, 320 gb HDD, a really good touchpad and a backlit keyboard. The only shortcoming was 2 gb rams, but it cost me 15 dollars to install another 4 gbs.

Google's purchase of Motorola approved by China regulators, deal expected to close next week | The Verge by technopwnin Android

You wouldn't spend billions if you weren't going to get more out than you put in.

Google did not have many other alternatives. Motorola Mobile was going down, and Microsoft was acquiring patents like crazy (at that time, Microsoft and Apple had recently finished a lucrative patent portfolio purchase). They bought Motorola just to make sure that Microsoft's arsenal would not get any fatter.

No dramatization.

Conditions are put by US authorities(FTC) when they were considering the purchase. Communication patents are essential patents and you can't prevent competitors from using them, you can't charge different prices to different firms and their prices are subject to government regulation.

Besides, as soon as Motorola purchase happened, Microsoft began to talk about unfair prices of licenses they had to pay Motorola. So, I am pretty sure, some monopoly cases will be brought in front of Google and Motorola patents might end up being burden for Google actually.

Most of Motorola's patents are considered "essential patents". Those are the patents that make cell phone communication possible (not things like "you push button, then you talk to people" kind of patents). As a result, Google can not use them to sue competitors or use them in any "strategic way". Google can not even charge much other companies to use them. If I am not mistaken, one of the conditions for Google to acquire Motorola was to not use those patents against competitors. When you think of it, this is a sound policy.

What is not sound and normal is courts allowing "non-essential (bogus, useless)" patents as business tools. Whereas motorola can't use its patents from real inventions and can charge relatively modest amounts (compared to technology it lends others); Microsoft can go crazy with its idiotic patents and charge 10 dollars per device and earn more money from Android without contributing anything while earning less money on WP7 then they make on Android.

We'll even see Microsoft and Apple suing Google in near future to pay less for Motorola patents. They will tell courts that Google is using them strategically, and they will ask for a lower price. So, at the end, those patents might be even further cause for Google to be sued , not the other way around. That would be ironic.

That's why I ignore ratemyprofessor. It does not matter you get distinguished instructor award 5 times in a row. 3 troublemakers are the only ones who will write a review there. Yelp is a little better in this regard, more people write reviews there.

he is just repeating the same bs all over about Ghazali (omitting things like Crusades and Monghols). Ghazali was a perfect critique of "Aristotalian" philosophy. Other philosophers could not come up with good answers to his criticisms. To this day I am astonished to see how he foreshadowed Descartes, Borges, David Hume... in many respects. I think the system he created is not viable one in this age, but it definitely is a very consistent one compared to ones he criticized. The problem was he was too good, people could not answer, that great philosophical discussion ended. Maybe if crusades and Monghols did not destroy so much, a healthy discourse could comtinue.

Nobody is steAling anything from anybody. Muslims used indian numbers, because they were so useful. Europeans saw that from muslims, and thought they were arabic numbers. Cultures borrow ideas. It is not like one culture stole the credit to idea on purpose. Let us not extend that notion of ideas as commodities to cultures at least.

Can you point to point where he talks about ghazali, or can you summarize what he said? Video is just too long. Thanks

I cringe everytime a european from his/her high horse comment about immigration, patriotism, nationalism in a more or less condescending way while setting themselves as good examples.

Their systems might look good from outside, but their societies are racist to the core. I have experienced life in both said places, americans are much much welcoming people and have way less prejudice in general. There are exceptions, I am talking about general attitude.

Genghis Khan and Crusades happened. Islamic world was crushed by two of the biggest mindless attacks that happened to be at the same time. Genghis Khan destroyed cities and cultural centres. Crusaders took mediterrenean sea from muslims. After that point, islamic civilization did not collapse, it still experienced good times. It gained political stability, but intellectual development came to a halt ( there were exceptions like ibn khaldun)
