TROPHY CASE

A proposal on being antiSRS. by MikeVDawsonin antisrs

[–]cojoco 1 point2 points ago

So this makes me wonder, do we really need aSRS when SRS is doing a great job of making themselves look awful?

Newbies do come here sometimes and ask what it is all about, and there are plenty of people here to set them on the right path.

Let's actually prove that beyond the racist and otherwise offensive crap we get sometimes, there is a whole lot of love, charity, good advice, genuine humor, advice and discussion within reddit.

Interestingly, SRS do have a sub which highlights this, called /r/goldredditsays.

But I think that your proposal sounds like a fine idea.

/r/srs would also be a good place to put such material if it ever gets compiled.

However, I think that there's another issue you haven't mentioned, which is that a lot of people here do think that there's a lot of prejudiced material on Reddit, and would like to work out ways to improve Reddit culture.

SRS is doing a piss-poor job at this, I guess because this has nothing to do with their stated mission, but I think that there are people here who are interested in this pseudo-goal of SRS and could have a fair crack at helping.

But seriously ... would you ever invite me to a surprise party?

I was banned from SRSMeta for giving /u/battlebabies Reddit Gold, for goodness sakes!

All I get to do for kicks is post spoilers and say rude things about you guys.

Oh, and I know that you're only using me for my karma, but I don't mind.

I actually quite like interacting with SRS people in other subs; it's the only time I get to have a decent discussion with any of them.

The only problem I see with that, is it should not be biased, which would be very hard to do.

I don't think it would be hard to do at all.

What would be hard would be getting people to actually believe what was written in the sidebar.

I think that talking about this site anytime someone thinks there is an SRS invasion would bring a lot of knee-jerkers who hate SRS but want to be immature and obnoxious about it.

I think that has happened a number of times, but I don't think those kind of people tend to stick around for very long.

Divide between Men and Women (non-SRS) by Karma_Houdiniin antisrs

[–]cojoco 1 point2 points ago

For instance, would you find being catcalled or goosed as threatening as your wife would?

Well, no, because she's physically smaller, and there are some very threatening men around.

But we live in a big city, my wife catches the bus to work, we walk around our neighbourhood, and it's hardly ever threatening.

In my own experience, I personally think that the paranoia with which people view others around them is more damaging to people's relationships than the danger of being attacked by anyone.

However, that will differ of course depending upon where you live.

While I am perhaps being naughty by saying things about my wife's experience, I guess you'll just have to take it or leave it.

EDIT: I guess I'm saying that a lot of men and women live in the world and are not victims of society, and that's the way it should be. I'm not saying that sexism does not affect people, but there are many people in the world who do not fear for their physical safety, because the dangers in some places are very small.

I don't think that this really has to be true.

I basically hang out with my wife all of the time, except when we're working, and I don't think that qualitatively our lives are actually all that different.

Some of our interests are different, some of our hobbies are different, and some of our tastes are different, but we share the same friends, and do the same social things.

If she had been catcalled, or goosed, or creeped out by anyone, she'd tell me, and that kind of thing really doesn't happen very often around here.

I mean there are obvious differences in our experiences, but they're not surprising differences by any means.

I guess what I've said doesn't really apply to the linked thread, but I don't think that any of this creepiness has been an important part of either of our lives, as we've been together for a long time now.

What do you guys think about racial jokes. by samadamscumminsin antisrs

[–]cojoco 2 points3 points ago

Sometimes I find really shocking things funny.

Racism is one way to make things shocking.

Also, sometimes they're so ridiculous that it would be hard to take offense.

But I wouldn't want to tell one or read one in a public place like Reddit.

Shhhh!!! Don't spoil the surprise!

What, are they going to give him a medal?

if I was too stupid to know that being nice to people who surround me is very beneficial to me.

How about being nice to people because it's enjoyable in its own right?

That would be BB I assume.

You hate the people who hate racism

How come you guys are always bringing "hate" into the conversation?

This is the first time in this thread that anyone has talked about "hating people".

Basically you folks go under 'low-hanging fruit' :V.

Yeah, because we're all obviously shitlords here, right?

Even the feminists.

I'm supposed to believe that my post, which was at +7 last time I saw it, and is now below 0, has nothing to do with an SRS coming into the post? Really? I don't buy that at all.

Don't jump to conclusions.

There are many weirdnesses about voting here, and speaking as an old-timer, it's not as simple as you think.

Just suck it up, and assume that the system works, on average.

Otherwise you'll spend all of your time chasing phantoms.

Better luck next time is my advice.

have linked it nowhere else in accordance with the moratorium policy.

Hey, what's this moratorium policy?

Is that the one against advertising the existence of aSRS ;) ?

Okay, so you modded SRSD before it went all AA-like.

I only started here just as the AAs came into their ascendancy, so my knowledge of ancient history is limited.

[–]cojoco 0 points1 point ago

No, I agree, but there are well-intentioned people who wish this.

SRS user posts nice story about Anti-SRS user gifting them Reddit gold. In response A-Farrah groundlessly accuses BB of encouraging doxers. by bardanin antisrs

this subreddit is dedicated to nothing more than hating a certain group

Hard as this is to believe, I actually don't hate anybody on Reddit.

[–]cojoco 0 points1 point ago

I don't know ... if you're interested in changing Reddit culture, then, despite all of its faults, SRS is the biggest and most visible group to join.

[–]cojoco 1 point2 points ago

Despite everything, some of them are well-intentioned.

However, I don't believe that is true of any of the AAs.

most circumcisions aren't religiously based

In my day most WASPS were circumcised, which is definitely not religion-based.

I pretty much never moderated in SRSD

Does that mean you were a potential AA, or was that after your time?

  • SRS claim disdain for the whole of Reddit, as they believe it is full of poop
  • SRS claim that they only want a safe space for minorities
  • SRS completely disavow attempting to change Reddit culture, as they believe it impossible
  • Yet SRS actively seek out the worst shit on Reddit, wallow about in it all day, and fling it about
  • Then they target and humiliate individuals.

  • SRS claim to be supportive of feminism
  • However, SRS are actively supportive of censorship and are generally sex-negative
  • This gives them more the morality of conservatives than liberals, which is pretty much anti-feminism
