I am the OP on that IAMA.

If you read carefully, I have said some things that may be unpopular-but none that have violated my oaths.

No one is interested in an IAMA that says 'IAMA Mason, don't ask me anything.' This was a way to get people interested and involved.

I answered their questions earnestly and sincerely, but if you read the text at the top I even say that I won't reveal any secret work, just say things I shouldn't. Example: the rules should be changed to allow women and atheists to join.

I have seen SO MUCH bad info about freemasonry I wanted to get in touch with even a few people to dispel some of those lies. And as a result I have gotten literally about 100 PM's about people who want info on their local lodge. These PM's keep pouring in; if your lodge gets a new member because of this day's work, you're welcome.

The craft isn't attracting people young anymore, we must evolve or die. Secret and unsaid are two different things.

I think he was killed by the worst of the masons. It's a shame, but the worst members of an organization are often the ones people are most interested in. The people who carried out that act are the worst of the masons and it's a shame they were allowed to join.

No, in the 1800's there was severe persecution of the Freemasons in the US leading many members to leave. Chances are, somewhere between those ancestors and your living generations your family simply stopped joining.

No disrespect taken, this is a very insightful question. The bottom line is this, we are a society that has very little required 'in real life' social interaction. Masonry gives me an opportunity to do things with good people while helping my community and get off the internet for a few hours a week.

I was in my mid 30's when I joined, but I don't want to reveal more than that. I asked, Masons may not invite, as joining must be of one's own free will and accord.

I would have joined much younger. I was well into my 30's before I joined and I think about all the years that I sat around and did NOTHING.

This is a hot topic right now. The old timers say it's terrible, but for the organization to continue it must evolve. Same reason I think we should change the rules to allow atheists and women in.

If a Mason has sons he should, because it's a good group that will help his sons become good people. However, like all masons, his sons must come of their own free will and accord. They can't be forced in. There would be no consequences if they don't.

All that means is stuff you could use to fake being a mason.

I think that because there are secrets, the worst or most fantastic is assumed.

I believe in God but don't believe in praying to him. I'm a Deist in that I believe God created all, but has never interfered once since then. That includes me not believing in Jesus Christ ever walking the earth. Am I still in?

Absolutely. 'I believe in God' is all that's required, no further explanation is necessary.

Have you seen anyone get kicked out of the group? If so, what'd they do wrong?

The only reason I've ever seen anyone get kicked out is for non-payment of dues. And that's only if they just stop. Non-payment due to financial hardship will generally not result in being removed.
