What about the time when Karl lies ? I couldn't believe it, I thought he would just be honest about it, but he even had one of the crew jump and filmed it to pretend it was him! That choice was very intriguing and colored his character even further. What did you guys thing about that?

I have pondered about his patience as well, I think it might be related to their solid friendship. Also mentioned on one of their shows: Karl and Ricky believe they have a lot in common (although, admittedly, it is hard to see that in the show).

yah when you see the devilish smile on merchants face and the sometimes forced posture of gervais, you know its all part of it. I personally find this show brilliant. But I can see why it has not garnered as much attention as it deserves. It is deep.
