Agree, but the caster usually shows the overview every once in a while so its not a huge deal.

Agree, that information is not all that useful.

Very fit, but I can't run! Why is this? by GrubbyTrainersin running

[–]dethredic 5 points6 points ago

When you say exhausted do you mean: 1) That your legs are sore / tired or 2) You out of breath and panting?

If 1) is your problem just keep at it. The muscles are being worked differently and more shock is being applied to your body with each step (vs hockey and rowing).

If 2) is your problem run slower. I'm not a good hockey player but it seems to be about short hard intervals rather than 1 long one. I can't comment on rowing though.

If these are going to be mainly for running don't spend more than $20-$30.

  • The quality of the music will be hard to notice over your hard breathing, feat pounding against the ground and other noise that comes from running.
  • You will likely get caught in the rain sooner or later / sweat can be an issue so there is a chance of water damage.

Try something like this pair from MEElectronics. I can't speak for that pair in particular, but I have a different pair by them and they come with a clip on the wire. This will allows me to fasten it to my shirt better to reduce the bounce of the wire as you run.

Sweet black coffee or tea? by B10N1CB1S0Nin Fitness

[–]dethredic 2 points3 points ago

Be a man and just drink regular black coffee (cold turkey). After doing so for 2-3 weeks the taste will start to grow on you. I used to hate black coffee and now I love it. The styles that market as "Dark/Intense" taste the best black imo.

What is the logic/science behind doing long training runs at a pace slower than race pace? by Kierranin running

[–]dethredic 1 point2 points ago

Can you explain how you got your R (and how I can get mine) and what the I means?

Interesting. As an ex soccer player (and part time cross-country runner) who has always run as hard and as long as possible to train / get in shape this gives me something to think about.

When you say intervals, how long / hard are the fast parts? A full sprint for 10-20 seconds or 80% speed for 30-60 seconds? (assuming I am training for a 10 mile race).

EDIT: I'm sure I got the interval training part indirectly through soccer before, but I only play casually now so I will look into doing some intervals.

I'm currently in Waterloo and you are right, the mens section is a corner of the store. I will take a look at some other ones when I get a chance.

APC PS/NS by Ho_chi_minhin malefashionadvice

[–]dethredic 2 points3 points ago*

I'm 6'2", 150lbs and I wear size 28 PS (and 32 levis). To be fair they fit my waist perfectly now (after stretching out a bit), where as the levis don't. So although it seems like I sized down 4 it was probably closer to 3.

My 32/32 levis 511 rigid's are about the same (slightly baggier but not as long), but my 32/32 non rigids are much baggier.

If you can't try them on, go to styleforum's bst section and you should see a barely worn pair (for 120-150) pop up in your prospective size in 1-2 weeks. While you are waiting read their APC thread which has tons of people reviews and fit pics. Use those to help you make your decision.

Also possibly consider the NCs, they are in between the PS and NS although I have read they don't taper nicely. Something to look at.

EDIT: Context Clothing has sorta accurate measurements of the jeans, use those to help you figure out the right size as well. I would say the sizes are probably accurate to +-0.4cm.

EDIT2: If you are short be prepared to cuff or get them hemmed.

Buying Shirts: Why You Should Never Go Off-the-Rack Again by ZanshinJin malefashionadvice

[–]dethredic 11 points12 points ago

I have been using Moderntailor for 8 months now and it is great. Sure the first 2 shits weren't perfect, but they weren't that bad, and after some small adjustments I can now order a perfectly fitting shirt without having to go to a tailor (which isn't easy for everyone). I would say if you aren't a "normal" size they you will have great results with a MTM site. Just make sure you get the measurements right.

Best OCBD for ~$50? by Lord_of_the_Dancein malefashionadvice

[–]dethredic 1 point2 points ago

Don't know where you live, but it cost me $10 is shipping and other stuff to Canada (so $30 total).

I agree with this though. The first one might be a little off in a couple places, but then if you need another just adjust your measurements slightly and you will have a perfect shirt.

Yo MFA, what's something you'd love to include in your wardrobe but can't? by kosherkowboyin malefashionadvice

[–]dethredic 5 points6 points ago

Just keep wearing them and it will get better. Put some band aids on your heels before putting them on, assuming that's where its hurting.

501s on a skinny guy? by Damaband41in malefashionadvice

[–]dethredic 0 points1 point ago

I personally wear 32x32. That being said I wear my jeans lower down on my hips (and not super tight) so it you like them up higher then you might need a longer pair.

I would also urge you to try them on if possible because 1 pair of my 511s fit much tighter (and shorter) than another.
