TROPHY CASE

No better way to put it by arab_mamba96in eCards

[–]dnnr 0 points1 point ago

Grammar Nazi me: "Off" isn't a direction. Even if it were, the sentence needs to be restructured. If you try to end it with the preposition "in" (to see if it sound "right" in colloquial English), it would read:

Off is the general direction that I wish you would fuck in.

It should be structured to something like:

Off is in the general direction which I wish you would fuck.

This sentence basically sounds horrible any way you try to frame it.

What's the best share-able To Do app? by dnnrin iphone

[–]dnnr[S] 0 points1 point ago

I tried both GoTask and Wunderlist. While GoTask has the ability to make lists within lists (which is a great idea), I liked the way Wunderlist synced better. The way it synced was by being able to share lists, not just sign in to two separate accounts that had separate lists. Small, but important, difference for us.

What if I don't have a shared Gmail account? We both have separate accounts and merge our calendars.

I assume your solution wouldn't work with two Gmail accounts?

Which season/episode do you think the show finally jumped the shark? by dnnrin theoffice

[–]dnnr[S] 2 points3 points ago

Yes, there is a really good argument to be made that the story revolves around Jim and Pam. After all, that's how the Office UK was made (and made quite successfully, I might add). The rest of your points are pretty strong as well and probably not worthy of my commentary.

I never thought about that ... probably because as a whole, I really enjoyed the episode. But yeah, based on your comment, I'd have to agree, it smelled strongly of shark jumping.

You may not have caught the edit, I meant to say "now" and not "not". The Banker is definitely at the top of my list now.

That episode was pretty crappy. It's now at the top of my list of worst episodes.

EDIT: corrected "not" to "now". Jeez what a mistake.

This is a great comment; I feel enlightened! I think the trick, if it is possible, is to pick your battles, and learn how to ask in a really nice way when broaching the subject seems appropriate.

I'm not sure if I'll stop asking, BUT - I will work very hard to be even more meek and respectful, and as much as possible, make it a request and not a demand (as you so well-said). Something like: "Hello, pardon us, would you mind terribly moving down one seat so that we could sit our group of three, or would you prefer not to do that?"

I don't know. That's obviously not the best case scenario. Based on this thread, it sounds like I need to get my ass to the theater earlier.

We're on the same page with this: I don't think groups 4 or more should really be asking people to move.

I guess a small part of this is my view of what "late" is. IMHO, previews are still "pre-show" and it is allowed for people to still be getting seated. However, if the movie is playing, absolutely no one should be asking anyone else to move.

I wouldn't have even asked for them to move, because it was my fault I was late and not theirs.

Certain things in society just strike me as odd, and this is one of them - is it not okay to ask people things that they might say "no" to? I mean, that's why I'm asking - I'm giving the person the chance to respond in the affirmative or negative, and don't expect either. I'm just surprised she was upset, I guess. I definitely wasn't going for that.

I guess the big lesson for me here is just because moving a seat during the previews is so far low on MY list of minor inconveniences doesn't mean that someone else holds it at that same priority. It's just surprising to learn these things, especially after attending movies for fifteen years.

I would be interested to see Reddit's list of minor vs major inconveniences - it sure seems like that as a community, we have a lot to complain about.

You suggested which seat for them was better for you. This appears totally selfish and produced a negative response.

This is a good point. I don't think it's that "totally" selfish, as it would not bother me in the slightest were someone to ask me, but after reading through this thread, I can understand where people are coming from - maybe the kid had a pre-existing neck condition that required a certain angle to make the experience more enjoyable? It's a facetious example, but there could be any number of reasons that they were looking forward to those particular seats.

I guess what really surprises me is the attitude I got. I asked simply and politely, and likewise, I can be denied simply and politely. I don't ask things I always expect to get a "yes" to. Sometimes I ask and I get a "no" and that's just fine.

I wholeheartedly agree about the talking during the movie. I suppose I give myself an "out" by speaking really quietly and really quickly. I'm not sure you can appreciate it until you see it. And even then, you would never see it, because it's so clandestine.

+1 for Loki and Black Widow reference.

Huh, stuff like this makes me wonder if I'm a terrible human being.

Here's my story: me, fiance, and mother in law arrive at the theater at 3:35 PM on Saturday. Lo and behold, the Avengers is showing at 3:30 PM! We decide to do the matinee and enter the theater. Stupid me didn't realize that this was the best movie since the Godfather and that, even for a matinee, it would be pretty packed.

I look up top and realize there's no room, so I look below and I see, at the edge of an aisle near the front (maybe 6 rows back, so very close to the screen), two empty chairs, then a mother and her teenager daughter, and then one empty chair.

I think "Great! I'm sure they won't mind moving one chair as they will be closer to the center of the screen."

Well, not great - I asked her and she got this really perturbed look and started in on a story about how early they arrived. I quickly said, "Okay, no problem" and left.

I tried to get inside her mind - maybe she didn't want her daughter to sit next to a stranger, I don't know. The weird thing is, I could've just sat next to her daughter anyway. They weren't good seats, so it's hard to fathom for me why she wouldn't have moved.

People argue that it doesn't matter to sit together, but let me tell you, if my fiance isn't following the story of the movie, we're going to have a quick and quiet conversation to get her up to speed, and that usually means I should be close for the sake of everyone around. Otherwise she won't enjoy it and then it's just a waste of money.

We ended up going to a later show at the same matinee price, because theater management was really nice.

I'm just not sure why we all can't get along? What is so hard for the general populace to understand about moving as close to the center of the aisle and making room on the ends for people who arrive later? I personally have no problem moving 3 to 4 chairs in either direction during the previews to accommodate groups.

TL;DR: Arrived to the theater during previews, lady and daughter in bad seats wouldn't move one seat closer to the center of the aisle. They are the only people we asked.

Agreed, and the author of the article definitely makes that point. But he makes other good points too, most notably, the size of LTE chips.
