reddit, what's the biggest soccer match you've ever been to? by ds445in soccer

as much as it hurts to hear that as a Bayern Munich fan, congrats to you guys... :)

Surely you have some pictures of the night that you could share? Would be genuinely interesting to see what things looked like (both inside the stadium and afterwards) from the perspective of a Chelsea supporter!

one of the greatest most-remembered moments in Champions League history, that's for sure

Sounds amazing - who were you rooting for at the final?

everyone who went to a World Cup game found it an amazing experience - too bad the next couple of World Cups (2014 in Brazil, 2018 in Russia, 2022 in Qatar and, in all likelihood, 2026 in China) won't be that easy to get to...

In case she still wants that profile picture, here's the best I could whip up in a few minutes - should be close enough

... and it's precisely those that I envy - that's just natural, isn't it?

The winners will celebrate and the users will complain bitterly about having come so close - of course it's in a sense their own fault, as a defeat will always be, that's all part of the beautiful game ;)

I guess that's one way of looking at it - the team perhaps still isn't at the peak, and Robben and Ribery will most likely be around for a couple more years... and now they should be as hungry for big titles as is possible

now now, let's not forget Bayern Munich who on Saturday joined that illustrious club!

well, Lampard and Cole both took great penalties...

funny that you should mention this - we just lost the U17 European Cup Final in penalties after being ahead until late in the game... and to the Dutch, of all nations...

didn't you guys just get promoted this weekend?

that's my big worry as well - that perhaps we've lost more than just the most important match in the club's history, but also what is commonly called "the winner's gene" in Germany... which would not bode well for things to come

Looks like Robben is indeed the new Ballack, yeah

Well, you guys have other priorities - at least you're good at your traditional national sports, right?

Well, I'd like to think 2005 softened the blow of 2007 a bit?

A lot of Bayern fans I spoke to today suggested we should move back to the Olympic Stadium now since the Allianz Arena will be forever cursed... maybe we should genuinely consider that.

I still remember the heart break of 1999 in Barcelona, so my first time being at the Camp Nou was almost surreal, standing close to the spot where Solskjaer and Sheringham so brutally ended our dreams - and now we'll have to see the scene of the crime every other week, not really sure how we'll deal with that...

So if the Argentinians think 2010 never happened, and the English think 1996 never happened, can we just forget about 2012 then? Never mind the Euros, even a German victory wouldn't make up for last night

Well, the pressure's on you now... ;)

But in all seriousness, it does look like those times are changing, doesn't it?

Problem is that the expectation arises automatically if you tend to get close, or have a reasonable shot at doing so - much in the same vein, it would be great if I could just enjoy the fact I have access to clean water and a roof over my head and take everything else in life as a bonus, but that's not how the human mind works...

Which would you rank higher - winning the Champions League or winning the Euros? by ds445in soccer

[–]ds445[S] 0 points1 point ago

But the England '66 team won the World Cup, not the Euros - there's no doubt the World Cup is the biggest trophy in football, but hence the question where the Euros fall; would an England team that had won the Euros find its place in history in a similar fashion?

Glad to hear you enjoyed those games - incidentally, where does the 2006 World Cup final rank for you? ;)

Only problem is that if the finals tend to be kind of a problem, that will usually ruin everything, as we've demonstrated so dramatically last night

I'd put Euro League > National Cup, but otherwise I'm with you
