Piracy: What influences your decision to pay for or pirate a game? by gabe2in truegaming

[–]frankster 1 point2 points ago

I pirated loads when I was at uni and skint. Two things have changed since then: firstly steam appeared which is very convenient for games, secondly I have a job.

Your thoughts on presets by hiphop8004in edmproduction

[–]frankster 0 points1 point ago

No because once you have saved yourself a few good sounds from the synth then you can use them as your own "presets" and then the music-making can start. Creating synth sounds is or can be a different part of the process to writing a tune.

Why don't you spend one week making loads of synth patches and not writing tunes, then for the next few weeks dont piss about making synth patches (apart from tweaking the ones you already made) and get on with dropping those funky beats.

Sometimes nerfs are needed urgently. But they can never be ninja nerfs especially when considering hardcore. by Azphaelin Diablo

Yep when you buy something your relationship is with the retailer not the manufacturer.

AH - If you want me to buy your wares, put a damn buyout. by ahowell8in Diablo

[–]frankster 0 points1 point ago

Its a bit of a pain but you can select item type, level range +- a level or two of the item you're selling, choose the most important stat(s) and their minimum value(s) and then sort by ascending buyout price...

if its indexed by buyout price, then the db might be able to do a binary search or similar to exclude many of the results. depending on various factors. so yes databases totally work that way.

Its more like the seller is the one doing the bidding then it takes up to 2 days to get feedback on whether his bid was successful so its much slower to reach the steady(ish) state.

i agree. its a pain but also it probably makes things work better (query times etc) and forces a certain amount of crappier loot into vendors instead of languishing forever unloved and unbought on the AH.

you exclude the possibility that a change introduces a bug on the server side

That PS3 thing is definitely grounds for a refund under EU law - it no longer functions as advertised.

Why is there so much hate towards this genre? by Nusentin dubstep

[–]frankster -3 points-2 points ago

Oh shut up, just listen to the music you like and fuck everyone else. And stop playing games with 13 year olds.

By the way you're really cool for listening to dubstep even though those less cool people think its shit.

May unveils Asbo overhaul. by weblypistolin ukpolitics

[–]frankster 7 points8 points ago

Everything Theresa May has come out and said so far has been stupid. I'm not sure what I think about ASBOs but I definitely don't trust her to tinker with them.

i think the bandwidth might be 1/3 but the latency is much higher than that. (15 cycles rings a bell from memory timings)

Exclusive: New Google+ Study Reveals Minimal Social Activity, Weak User Engagement by Maxcactusin Foodforthought

plus all those fucking apps that appear on my newsfeed that I have to individually ban. Doesn't seem to be a setting to "never display any app ever, apart from those I allow"

I would expect that even if it only improves search results or advertising (or whatever they want it for) for 10% of users it will be a success..

well its probably true that a lot less people regularly use google+ than facebook however I have never posted anything publicly on there, only to my circles which using a variation of the anthropic principal I assume holds true for everyone else.

I would expect people who don't initially understand circles to post first publically then later retreat to circles.

That said I don't expect the figures from google will be that fanastic either and I expect there will be a reasonable correllation between amount of public posts and amount of private posts...

well its the same kind of thing - cause pain for innocents in order to have a few more guilty people suffer vs reduce suffering of innocents while letting some guilty people get away with stuff

no but the argument you're advancing seems to be like claiming its safe for a known paedophile to babysit your children, because so far he hasn't interfered with your kids.

I feel the same argument applies to the criminal justice system: I would rather several criminals went free than one innocent man was unjustly convicted (and had his life ruined).

An energy bill that favours nuclear and gas; from the greenest government ever by amilliontomatoesin ukpolitics

only green in the sense that it doesn't release much CO2, but definitely extremely bad for the environment in that the radioactive byproducts last for hundreds of thousands of years. Basically longer than homo sapiens has been in its current form.
