Any advice for getting rid of a headache? by KumaBearBearBearin Paleo

[–]greysands 0 points1 point ago

I used to get headaches too. Try eating more fruit or nuts and see if it has any effect. I believe it is a blood sugar thing and you need a little more sugar or starch. (And let me know if it works, I'm curious if I'm the only one).

I half assed a Paleo diet and my doctor no longer wants to put me on insulin! by whine_and_cheesein Paleo

Did you eat any type of other carbs for that month and a half? Like fruit, nuts, tubers? Just curious.

Huge/healthy salads at lunch are leaving me with headaches 2 hours later. by plasticslugin nutrition

I would second all the comments about dairy. Try cutting out the blue cheese for a week and see if there's any difference. I wouldn't think blood sugar would be a problem here since there's almonds and pineapple, unless these are the only sugar/starches you are eating for the rest of the day?

Coffee drinking linked to longer life by vajavin Health

Exactly my thoughts. They need to have a control of people that drink the same amount of just water vs. drinking just coffee and see if there is a difference, or just a matter of hydration.

Can you over-eat even the healthiest of foods? by mahler9in Health

[–]greysands 0 points1 point ago

I don't think it is a matter of "too much of a good thing," but instead "while you are eating this one good thing, what are you depriving yourself of?" If you eat one vegetable like carrots, you'll get a whole lot of vitamin A, and good percentages of some vitamins and minerals, but you will be missing out on others, as well as protein and some amino acids. See chart here: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/3026/3

So yeah, one meal of veggies is great, as long as the next meals in the day balance things out a bit with other essential nutrients.

Do you do potatoes? Salt? Do you adjust the classic diet in any way?

"Dietary problems" means like any lack of nutrients, or any regular stomach aches, constipation, etc.

Exercise for mental health issues... by splottin Fitness

I have found that exercise may be a little help, but it pales in comparison to nutrition when it comes to affects upon depression/anxiety. Once I removed excess sugar from my diet, there was a really noticeable improvement.

The Monks of Mount Athos by greysandsin Fitness

[–]greysands[S] 0 points1 point ago

I suppose it has to come down to your third point, because

1) They seem to only eat fish on special occasions, maybe once every one or two months. From what I've been told, this wouldn't be sufficient B-12 consumption alone.

2) They've been studying these monks for almost 20 years, and the monks have lived like this for over 1,000 years. If deficiency was going to set in, I think it would have by now.

What do you think of the Inflammation Factor Rating? by greysandsin Fitness

What are the dangers in having a diet too high in anti-inflammatory foods?

Hi, does anyone know what helps against Sinutisis (inflammation of the paranasal sinuses). I'm in constant pain and need to try something that helps, this getting into a torture. by seabucksin AskReddit

[–]greysands 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if you are still checking this thread, but I used to get sinus infections all the time. On a whim, I eliminated dairy from my diet and they went away. It may not be dairy for you, but you should try eliminating something from your diet for 3 weeks and see what happens. Could actually be an allergic reaction or inflammation from a food intolerance. God luck!

I don't consider myself very educated either; Wikipedia seems quite thorough though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflammation

Also, I found this website to be helpful in exploring ideas about chronic vs. acute inflammation, although it does not address nutrition: http://www.inflammationtheory.com/#2
