It's when too much blood flows to the brain.

Says Wikipedia:

A redout occurs when the body experiences a negative g-force sufficient to cause a blood flow from the lower parts of the body to the head. It is the inverse effect of a greyout or brownout, where blood flows away from the head to the lower parts of the body. Redouts are potentially dangerous and can cause retinal damage and hemorrhagic stroke.

That's about as clear an example of using religion to justify intolerance as I've ever seen.

Yeah, until they say:

We do not stand for any government or parties, we stand for freedom of people, freedom of speech and freedom of information.

They're trying to have it both ways. They're pretending to be a noble organization about "freedom," until someone points out that they're not actually achieving this goal and sometimes end up being harmful, at which point, the message becomes "it's just for the lulz."

Thanks for this post. My sustained weight-loss (about 80 pounds since the end of 2010) was focused on exercising. I do eat better, cut out the high-calorie sodas and such, but when I tried to lose weight in the past with a diet or depriving myself of a food I particularly like, it just frustrated me until the point at which I gave up.

Now, like I said, I'm eating a little smarter but still don't deprive myself of yummy food from time to time. I hit the elliptical for 45 minutes a morning and do lifting and resistance training for about 45 minutes per evening, five times a week. It's been effective not just at the weight loss but at overall wellness. If I started thinking about counting calories and depriving myself, I could see everything spiraling out of control. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

Presumably if they loved each other enough, they could have gotten married before the medical crisis even happened. This is a possibility for heterosexual couples, whereas it is not one for most gay couples.

Anyway, it's clear you refuse to empathize, are too dense to understand, or are just trolling, so that will be my last response. Have a nice day.

The difference is that the heterosexual couple had the option to get married. Do you seriously not understand the distinction?

There are no gay rights to take away, you mean stop new rights from being added. So please, be accurate.

I live in California. For awhile, gay marriage was legal. Then it was illegal. I think that is the definition of "rights being taken away." Wouldn't you agree?

And since you'll probably say that that was because of popular referendum, I'd like to point out that in Iowa, where gay marriage is legal as of 2009, the state government has tried to pass an amendment banning gay marriage. The Republican led Iowa House passed such legislation in 2011, but Democratic leaders blocked it from debate in the Senate.

So Republicans in Iowa would like gay people to no longer be able to get married even though they currently can. They wrote and tried to pass legislation to that effect. Sounds like they're trying to take rights away, wouldn't you say?

Hold a sec.. here it comes.... "bu bu but the hypocrites man.. we've had at least 3 scandals man, so that's the entire party... and they are all rabid anti-gays"

It's adorable that you think that just mentioning this is enough to gloss over the primary fact here: the party that continually tries to take away gay rights, the party that rode a wave of homophobia to the White House in 2004, the party that brought Rick Santorum to the mainstream is also the party that continually has gay scandals.

You know, maybe if this party didn't continually try to take away rights from a certain class of people, then the jokes about their blatant hypocrisy wouldn't ring so true every time.

Stream / game Re-Watch question. by spacelemonin nfl

[–]gsadamb 1 point2 points ago

Yep. I'm someone who has that service, and I do find it to be a great deal. The HD quality of the streams is pretty amazing, and it has lots of extra features (being able to watch four games stream simultaneously, having a nav that shows you all the plays of the game and lets you jump directly to them, a "compressed" mode that lets you watch an edited version of the game that just shows each play).

So yes, I highly recommend it.

For some reason I don't see an image for this article. Is it this one? http://blogs-images.forbes.com/thumbnails/blog_1022/pt_1022_1497_o.jpg?t=1334892140

If so, then Reddit might be using the og:image metadata from the page. That's a meta header tag that's generally used for stuff like Facebook sharing - it's how a page can specify which image gets displayed when a user shares that page.

The world's two worst variable names by petdancein programming

[–]gsadamb 0 points1 point ago

The last place I worked was a PHP shop (yeah, yeah, get it out of your system), and one of the big WTF things about PHP is that you can have variable variable names.

$some_var = 'hello world';
$foo = 'some_var';
print $$foo;  //prints "hello world"

I had a coworker who used these all the time. It was maddening.

Sorry, but asking for people to be respectful to others is not counter-productive. Have you ever tried to read ESPN comments and other such sports message boards? They're terrible. I love this subreddit because people generally try to be respectful and and thoughtful, and there's nothing wrong with making sure we try to maintain that culture.
