I worked for Reagan and wrote for National Review. But the new hysterical right cares nothing for truth or dignity by wang-bangerin politics

2010 taught me not to underestimate the apathy of young voters.

Obama could single-handedly drag the Overton window back to the left

Against an insurgent Republican party that refuses to participate, and a Democratic party infested with Blue Dogs?

I'm a big fan of the president, and I would say that you set your expectations a bit high.

Nearly 40 percent of Puget Sound homeowners are underwater on their mortgages by russ_walkerin Seattle

[–]jeffinfremont 2 points3 points ago

Outside of a few forums including Reddit, I have come to the conclusion that only morons, paid shills, and old people who don't understand the tubes post on those comment threads.

To the other point, I have friends who are in their early thirties, and their homes have lost so much value that they're resigned to living in them for the rest of their lives. Makes me glad I rent.

Nope, in a worst case scenario a number of shipping companies will shuffle their operations to Tacoma, and some workers would have a different commute.

John Stossel explains why businesses' desire for profit is a GOOD thing! by libertarianismin politics

[–]jeffinfremont 2 points3 points ago

I like how he doesn't bother to mention how many industries make their profits directly off taxpayer money, whether that money comes from defense, Medicare, grants, subsidies, etc.; not to mention the number of consumer-based businesses that benefit directly from all of those Social Security recipients.

Congress Won't Let The Navy Purchase Biofuel For The Great Green Fleet by maxxusflamusin politics

[–]jeffinfremont 3 points4 points ago

In the short term, yes. But after that, I don't think you understand. By generating enough mass production of biofuels (not just ethanol), the cost curve bends down. When the cost gets below petroleum, the market takes over. This is precisely what the big oil lobbyists fear.

Fox uReport "Proud to be American" images - military, guns, and flags. What does this imply? You decide! by jiz899in politics

[–]jeffinfremont 1 point2 points ago

Its quite obvious at this point that the American people three million drooling idiots who pay attention to Fox News are pretty much lost...

The good news is that they only account for 1% of the population. The bad news is that they account for a larger percentage of the voting population.

The cited study from 2009 does indeed list Illinois at the #6 most regressive state. Doesn't change the fact that good old Washington State is numero uno.

Not to mention the payroll disparity in EPL is on par with Major League Baseball without a luxury tax or revenue sharing. So money certainly trumps fairness and/or tradition in that league.

Tottenham taking a 30-minute bus ride to play Watford in an early round match is not the same as having to fly 3,000 miles...not to mention the payroll disparity is way more lopsided in the FA Cup. Apples and Oranges comparison.

How about the USSF concentrate its efforts on getting a company like Budweiser to plaster its brand all over the USOC so it can have a legitimate prize purse and force every participating club to take it seriously?

[–]jeffinfremont 0 points1 point ago

USSF needs to put together a coherent bracket that doesn't require cross-country travel for an early round match. They also need to get serious about finding a legitimate corporate sponsor to put up a legitimate purse so every club takes it seriously.

USSF has much bigger issues to face than whether or not lesser division teams will take a buyout to move a home game.
