I've found the Jabber/XMPP interface to be even less reliable, although its behavior seems to change intermittently. For most of last week, Pidgin did not receive any messages but was able to send successfully; messages were all delivered correctly to the website, but not to the client. Have you experienced anything like that?

Websites blocked on UCLA wifi? by jonthelinin ucla

[–]jevex 2 points3 points ago

UCLA_SECURE was replaced by eduroam and no longer exists. Networks ending in _RES (including UCLA_SECURE_RES, UCLA_WIFI_RES, and UCLA_WEB_RES) are supported by the Student Technology Center and are run differently from the networks on campus. "ServiceInstaller" is a component of the Impulse network-access-control system used on the _RES networks and is not used by the networks on campus.

The official UCLA networks (eduroam, UCLA_WIFI, and UCLA_WEB) do not filter or block anything. However, UCLA_WEB only allows traffic on ports 80 and 443 (things like email clients and Adium will likely not work when connected to UCLA_WEB). I am currently connected to a UCLA network and am able to access imo.im and meebo.com successfully.

There was a big push for advertising in the last few weeks; chalk and flyers all over campus.
