TROPHY CASE

Spiderman >>>> Morrigan. by strafefirein MvC3

[–]johnyxtreme 2 points3 points ago

Sais UWT setup is different from a normal UWT setup due to the dhc. If you Dhc into web throw it reduces the startup of the super, makin it nearly instant (works the same for other dhcs). In a normal web throw reset a double jump or air dash can easily get you out of the situation but it requires some timing and yes, supers that have the same properties as hard drive will work as well. With Sais set up though the opposing character resets much lower to the ground leaving much less time and space for a double jump to be executed and with the quicker start up due to the Dhc its almost near inescapable. Hard drive might work in both situations but I haven't tried it in the lab yet, hope this helped.

With your team following up on grabs is easy. You could easily find some examples on here or the seasons beatings stream thats on today.

(This is a post a made a while back, hope it helps and if you have more questions just PM me or reply and ill try my best to answer them.)

Most, if not all of a fighting games rules involve underlying nuances and basics that can be invisible to an inexperienced player. I'll list what i think are the basics and hopefully these will help.

  • learn how to move with your characters. Too many times have I played against players who choose characters with great mobility and fail to even build upon this skill and effectively turn their extremely mobile characterinto an obvious moving/sitting duck.

  • learn how to hit confirm. Beginners usually think they are good at a game because they have good combos. This is a flawed thought. Often times ill run into a player who will land a hit and kill my first character with a decent combo but land no hits on my next two because they fail at hit confirming and perform unsafe moves while I block.

  • learn which moves are punishable and which are not. (The bible is a great resource for this but the most effective way of learning move properties is to play more). This also means you must learn all the properties of your characters moves, may seem like a lot at fist but it gets easier with time.

  • blocking is your most powerful tool as well as offense. Blocking is a skill that you will learn over time and improve on. In this game advance blocking can be a life saver or a death wish.

  • grabbing is very powerful as well. You will run into chicken blockers all the time, and grabbing will destroy them.

  • learn how to convert hits and grabs. Often times you'll get a random hit or grab and its very important that you know how to convert it into a good damaging combo.

  • work on your keep away game. May seem lame at first to use projectiles but they are a powerful tool that can get you a win in certian match ups.

  • keep note of your characters health and always, if the opportunity arises, switch out your characters to regain health which moves on to my next point. This means you must learn how to switch out safely. Hard tagging is good but only in certian situations, if you hard tag on the fly you can leave your characters extremely exposed. Dhc is a good way to tag out but only with certian team compositions.

  • always make sure you kill an opponents characters. When an enemy is low on health, finish the job and do NOT let them switch out because in this game any character left over is an added assist and dhc combo potential to your team. Couple that with x factor and any character can effectively make a comback.

  • stay out of the corner and do not challenge your opponent on his ground. This may make little sense but ill try to explain. The corner is the easiest place on the stage to apply pressure and land combos so its one place you don't want to be when its you with your back against that corner, so that also means that you definitely want your opponent with his back against that corner. And as for your opponents "grounds" ill try and make it simple. Characters have certian specials and normals that give them the upper hand in certian situations, so in basic terms, learn how other characters like to play, learn their sweet spots and in the process this will unveil their weaknesses.

Lol j.Wong is such a scrub with spiderman, still love the guy for giving my main character some decent exposures though. I truly believe spiderman is heavily slept on and will one day become an extremely powerful character in the right hands.

Who would of thought taking a break from Street Fighter X Tekken to play a little bit of marvel would unlock new tech for my team (spider-man/Deadpool) by MissionStartin MvC3

[–]johnyxtreme 0 points1 point ago

You use....my exact....team.....There's an easier way to do a web throw reset of a full solo combo without the use of deadpools katanarama assist (usually ends up being a touch of death on certian characters, like on hulk, and any other characters that dont have a quick multidirectional air dash), or any assist at all, this allows me to use quick as the wind for deadpools assist. With that assist you can set up some pretty nice unblockables that help spidermans sometimes obvious rushdown.

Very nice tech, its rather easy to pull of these combos, just requires some timing. Thanks for sharing.

I've finnally traded in mvc3 for umvc3 and I want to start playing online but.... by Klaveir980in MvC3

[–]johnyxtreme 2 points3 points ago

I don't know why but I see too many players not do what I'm about to tell you. Help your friends get better, form a small community with them and build your skills up with them. Your friends can be good training partners and as any person in the group gets better your skills will rise collectively. Online is great for getting match up experience but nothing beats having a few no lag casuals with people who want to get better. Playing marvel doesn't always have to be a "look, my marvel stick is bigger than yours" contest.

Why not ask? Soliciting help with extended combos. by HumanTomatoin MvC3

Jump cancelling is when your character has a move that can be canceled into a normal jump. A good example of this is iron fists forward heavy, in a combo you can cancel his kick into air medium~>heavy~>special and continue this into a full combo. The problem with your team is, none of them have jump cancelable moves lol. But nemises does have a relaunch combo, as does nova and doom.

'Basic' Spider-man Combos Explained by Xero18 by komodo_dragonzordin MvC3

[–]johnyxtreme 1 point2 points ago*

Thanks for the upload. These combos are pretty difficult and require execution that seems rather impractical to try at a competitive event. The video does verify something i haven't been able to consistently land on my own and that is converting an air heavy into a full ground combo. Thanks again komodo, do you use spidey? We should definitely play sometime.
Edit: that or my execution just sucks :p

Vergil Devil Trigger: Better than you thought. by shaneshane1in MvC3

I think I remember Seth killian explain all the crazy things devil trigger does for Vergil on one of those early character description vids he released before umvc3 came out. I could be wrong though.

Oh, didn't know helm breaker hit mid...which is really stange??... it sounds like you want a perfect team man, I don't think they exist in this game and if anything every team has a weakness. EDIT: unblockables are kinda over rated anyways and they dont make you a better player.

[–]johnyxtreme 1 point2 points ago

Dead-pool is not a very good anchor. Vergil would make a much better anchor if you don't want doom on that spot, and if you like the unblockables that doom gets with the deadpool assist you should think about the unblockables that Vergil can create, which are much easier and reliable than dooms setup(e.g. call in deadpool, vergil teleport and helm breaker). Doom is great as an anchor because he can combo of almost any hit including his grab (which should be used alot more now that the glitch is gone) just by himself and with X-3 activated he becomes a real foot diving maniac threat. Edit: Deadpool also gains much more freedom from both vergils and dooms assist.

DEADPOOL IS AWESOME: Online Warrior Highlight Reel #1 by Maximilian by DoctorNeoOminousin MvC3

[–]johnyxtreme 1 point2 points ago

I've been doing this since vanilla and its good advice. Pineapple surprise is a pretty good option as well, although it can be dashed under by some characters if it hits it can easily be converted into a combo. Ninja gift cancelling was much better in vanilla back when you could cancel Deadpools overhead into ninja gift, those were the good ole days. Another thing Deadpools don't make very good use of are his katana-ramas, they break super armor and launch opponents away, a well placed katana-rama with a pineapple surprise or assist to cover your attack is a good tool rarely used.

Firebrand Tech - Death Loop by wakamakain MvC3

[–]johnyxtreme 0 points1 point ago

Im not a big fan of the unblockable move (probably because my team lacks a lockdown assist :p) but it looks like a good way to deal with a pheonix player, even if you didn't have the meter gain assist you'd only have to do the loop once to kill a pheonix which is really good.

Having a really hard time getting started in this game, any tips? by elusivesorain MvC3

[–]johnyxtreme 0 points1 point ago*

hahaha, yea, having a friend who's pro at a game will definitely help you become better way faster. I hope you like the idea of developing callouses on your thumbs, because marvel will definitely require you to have some if you want to use a pad. What system do you play on? some characters make good use of TKs in marvel, not as many as in vanilla though, but I dont know how easy it is to do a TK on pad, ive never tried :p

[–]johnyxtreme 0 points1 point ago

Just keep at it man. Do you remember how long it took you to get SSMB? We all can't be j.Wong and be good at a game in a weeks time. Alot of us have different ways of learning and will come upon realizations from different angles. Also, Stick with your arcade stick, fighting games feel like a whole different experience when you use one but if you feel more comfortable with a pad then by all means use a pad. My advice for getting better at any fighting game is to get down a good damaging combo, one that's easy and almost undropable. With that down, just play more against real opponents. Yes, online sucks sometimes but it's a very valuable resource. Online will help you understand what other characters play like and how people like to use them. Playing online will also reveal to you what kind of situations you have trouble dealing with subsequently lead you to try and solve the problem by going into the lab or asking for a rematch. As for a team...pick what u want, a true team will reveal itself to you as you play more because your strengths and weaknesses will reflect on you characters and you'll realize what your team is missing.

Spideys first combo in the guide completely whiffs on the last hit before you have to go into the super. I didn't really get to try the other ones muchd but I did learn that you can follow up after a raw webcrawlet assault :)

[–]johnyxtreme 2 points3 points ago

Posting a video would be more useful, not everybody plays the same way with certain characters and seeing your friend and you in action would make it easier for us to give you tips. But, as I can tell from your post, your friend seems to know that you have a habit of slipping up when you get in on his dormamu, take advantage of this. I don't know for sure but forward heavy with dorm blocked is pretty punishable by some characters, Nova slide might punish it and maybe even go under it. The way I beat keep away is usually to do the same or if they keep running away go for a predicted air throw, Nova is great for that btw.

Its not too long of a move, ever see a walking 360 from a good zangeif player? On a stick, a dp is usually just a flick of the wrist and is way faster than a qcf IMO.

Input on my team? Firebrand (Fire down), Nova (Shield), Sentinel (Drones) by SOLUNARin MvC3

[–]johnyxtreme 0 points1 point ago*

Luminous body isn't for damage, its just a speed boost. It makes firebrands air dashes way faster, allowing for good rush down. His normals allready have good priority so in the speed boost mode they are made much better and also make converting air hits into full combos much easier. His fireballs also gain speed so keep away with them is much better and using the ground fireball on a knockdown mixed with those instant air dashes makes for some tricky mix up. I think it depends on how you wanna use firebrand, I try to move as much with the air dashes and make great use of his mix ups. I use Dhcs for kills as well but try not to, usually if u do dark fire in the corner an air grab is doable but I havent had much success with it....need more labtime.
