Choosing a better rewards/elite membership credit card. [x-post from AskReddit] by angryundeadin personalfinance

[–]killtimehere 0 points1 point ago

Here's the shitty part though - none of the credit cards give you status. Lets take Delta for example - When you sign up for a delta Platinum you get 50,000 miles. Delta's Gold Medallion Status takes 50,000 MQM's to reach.

And MQM's are not equal to miles. MQM's can only be earned if you pay and fly. There is no way you can earn medallion/premier status via credit card

And like you said, the one with the skyclub access is the best, but its a 465 sign up fee or something right? I think sky club membership cost is 400$. I usually take my miles and pay for that 400$ a year.

You guys sound like a bunch of insufferable idiots. 'Oh I invest 1000's ..look at this kid..haha'. Real mature. And for people who parade around as being helpful, this is pretty pathetic. Cash is cash. He made some. WHo the fuck are you to mock it

27yr old with ~830k (self-made) networth. current financial plan/situation -- advice/comments/thoughts? by anthrowaway1in personalfinance

[–]killtimehere 0 points1 point ago

Why did you feel the need to say 'self-made' worth? And also, if you are being honest on your earnings, how did you manage 800K at 27? 47K for 'fun expenses'? Somehow I call BS.

Quick Credit Card Question by mouse_ratin personalfinance

[–]killtimehere 1 point2 points ago*

I bank with BofA and I got a student card in 2010. In 2011 I graduated and got what is called a 'Product Change' wherein they changed it from a student card to a Cash Rewards card. So its the same account but the type of usage on the account changed. When I got the new card, it said 'Account Holder Since 2010' on the account and card. I'm sure Wells Fargo does something like that.

Edit: Essentially a product change won't hurt you by closing the account. The account changes, yes, but all that matters is that you verify that the 'Account holder since xx' stays in the same date as when you got the student card. Also, I do not think it hurts your credit per se. What it does is it reduces the duration of the length of the credit line, which looks bad. If mine had come out saying 2011 instead of 2010 - it says i've had a line of credit only for a yr and essentially erases my past payment history.

ALU - AlcatelLucent. Long

I love to place my bets on companies that develop the underlying infrastructure of all the technology we use on a daily basis. ALU is one such, and for the long, I feel the stock is severely undervalued. Its essentially a smaller version of Cisco (and they are ranked 2nd behind Cisco). High potential ceiling as their 52 week high is $6.xx, currently at 2.xx, going steady after just reporting good financial results.

Edit- ALU is $2.60 as of tonight

My smartest investment? (Recommended by the sidebar!) by bilojbin investing

[–]killtimehere -9 points-8 points ago

Good start. But, as you read, be sure to remember that there are two ways to analyze an investment - qualitative and quantitative analysis. This book details the quantitative analysis part. That was Ben Graham's style of analyzing an investment. There is also, the qualitative analysis part (which in my opinion is more important, and why I never bothered reading this book, but that depends on people's styles) which you should consider upon conclusion of this book and/or when you buy a stock etc. Also, might I suggest 'The warren buffet way'. Enjoy!
