Years ago when I was in highschool, my friend beau and I got really stoned. We had taken some herb from his fathers stash and had the munchies and the giggles that were so heavy they consumed us.

Beau was a humble kid.. very easy to get along with, but not the brightest crayon in the box. Being jobless 15 and 16 year olds we did what we had to do to stay alive. We scoured the rest of his fathers house for spare change and headed to Krispy Kreme Donuts with enought quarters, dimes pennies and nickels to get us a dozen donuts and some chocolate milk.

As we approached the counter and told the clerk we would like to choose a dozen donuts to take home with us, it felt like everything in life was just as it should be. I was put on this planet to eat these 6 donuts and have this chocolate milk. The woman at the counter was a bit unpleasant.. understandably. We were almost to stoned to communicate.

As I proceeded to point out to her 1 at a time the donuts that I would be taking with me, I kept on getting this nudge in my ribs. I look over and Beau is staring this woman right in the eyes.

I didn't pay much attention and continued trying to tell the woman that I would like another glaze chocolate with sprinkles. Theres not much going on in this donut shop and right as I get another nudge in the ribs, beau lets out what I can only assume that he thought was a whisper.

In a not quite a whisper of a tone he says to me as he continues to stare her in the eyes, "DUDE... THAT BITCH HAS A MOUSTACHE!"

It took an eternity for my brain to comprehend the exactly what had just happened. Luckily for me I had already picked out my first 5 donuts of what would be my half of the dozen.

There was a desolate silence that lasted for what I estimate to be 3-4 seconds real time and then we started laughing harder than we had ever laughed in our entire lives. Uncontrollable laughter.

I finally managed to say the words, "and I will also have that donut!". I then walked over to a table and almost died of dehydration from all of the water l lost from my eyes due to the extreme cry-laughing I was doing as a result of watching beau try and order the rest of his donuts and pay this bearded lady in change.

Looking back on it, I think yeah that was pretty fucked up. On that day Beau was an asshole and that is something I will never forget.

hahahah... yes its great. i cant even imagine going back to windows.

I think that is what hell is. Glued to a hard plastic chair and microsoft box, forced to program system popup messages in visual studio using VB.

I like this.. thank you for giving me the perspective I have been looking for.

An appropriate time and place for everything I suppose...

I had my first interview today for a php dev position and they asked me about what frameworks I used and I totally wasn't expecting it...

I guess I should learn something about them.. the ones I had looked into previously were thin php, zend and cake.

If I don't get this job however, I was thinking about trying out perl or ruby.. There is just so much out there to learn!!!

Could someone please tell me if I am wrong.. Aren't frameworks a bit like training wheels?? I haven't been developing for that long but it seems to be a bit more efficient if you write it yourself..

correct. I started of just looking for how to create new buffers and whatever else. I probably should have started off with :help but I still havent gotten friendly with it yet.

But yes, basically I went on a trip to internet land and what I thought would be 10 minutes there lasted quite longer.

where does this raw knowledge come from??? i want to be able to answer questions for people like you! lol...

here is the majority of it. like i said, i ran sudo chmod 000 /usr/bin/virtuoso* 2 days ago.

my setup... im pretty sure I went with the full kde. i had some extra cash in the fall and sprung for parts i didn't need on this build. I figured there was no reason not to go with the full thing with the surplus of resources and now whatever the hell is going on in there is making my i5 its bitch!

I haven't been computering much differently lately. Just started using git, and also installed gimp but it wasn't being slow with that. Also installed some packages from the AUR for the first time.. just the android dev pack for eclipse or whatever...

thank you for your help. i will try your suggestions after I get some much needed sleep.

weird.. i went there and it says there are no settings to configure because nepomuk installation hasn't been completed. I'm on arch if that makes a difference.

Also I tried linuxtampas solution below and everything was fine. for the rest of the day.. today its doing it again. It seems to be jacking up everytime i save a file in vim. it's like :w takes a long time and :wq takes fooorreeevvveeerrrr!

Do you have any suggestions?
