Is it worth it to keep trying for a potential client? by tripj33in freelance

[–]mifune_toshiro 1 point2 points ago

And I don't really even mean it in a cynical way. It's business. If it's not worth it, then walk away, and no hard feelings. Remember The Godfather: it's not personal, it's just business.

You may love your job, but you work with clients for the money. If the money isn't worth it with them, move on, and don't waste time feeling upset about it.

Do you want their money more than you want to deal with their bullshit?

You have to quarantine the infected in a case like this, or they'll spread the infection too quickly upon reanimation.

Can't advise the Time Travel bit if you're a wizard. White Council hears about you breaking the Sixth Law of Magic and you'll have Wardens on your ass before you can say "boo."

Well, David Tennant did, so I don't see why not.

In around 120 years, every person currently alive will be dead, and the earth will be completely populated with people that have not yet been born. What other inevitable facts about the future do you think about? by diddletapflamdiddlein AskReddit

Reminds me of that quote from Mad Men...

"She was born in 1898 in a barn. She died on the thirty-seventh floor of a skyscraper. She's an astronaut."

Do you guys even watch Dr Who? It never ends well for the companions.

Was that golf ball worth it? by fuzzyferretin WTF

[–]mifune_toshiro 1 point2 points ago

Yep. From what I know from living in Florida, alligators are deadly dangerous, but not usually really aggressive. (They're also in dang near every body of water.)

I've always thought of them as being like dynamite with a very long fuse. It will burn and burn, and you can get away with a lot of dumbassery without being blown up (if you'd like to see said dumbassery - watch tourists in the Florida Everglades sometime - they act like the gators are Disneyland animatronics), but once that fuse burns all the way down, God help you if you are anywhere near that creature.

But theyre not crazy aggressive - you leave them be and keep your distance and they'll do the same.

Anyone every wonder about Marcone? by mojofrojoin dresdenfiles

[–]mifune_toshiro 0 points1 point ago

So far, Harry has been MASSIVELY useful to Marcone, too. He's hard on property...but he's also Spoiler

Really - that's Marcone's MO through the whole series - he controls a criminal empire, but keeps that crime on a tight enough leash that the authorities (supernatural or mundane) tend to turn a blind eye, because he's better than the carnage-in-the-streets alternative.

Yep. Liked this show quite a bit.

Although really, it should have ended with Season 5.

It's cheesy good. If you can accept the cheese and savor its deliciousness, it's a pretty good show.

What C.S. Lewis and Mark Twain Captured In Their Writing, That The Hunger Games Missed by Frankfusionin Christianity

[–]mifune_toshiro 0 points1 point ago

That's what I was thinking...the Game Makers would not have hesitated to kill her instantly. And while I think that would be an honorable decision on her part - to die refusing to participate - it would make for a shorter, less interesting story - and obviously not the story that the author was looking to tell.

What C.S. Lewis and Mark Twain Captured In Their Writing, That The Hunger Games Missed by Frankfusionin Christianity

[–]mifune_toshiro 1 point2 points ago

Well said.

...I don't get articles like this.

Katniss is not supposed to be a shining paragon of perfect virtue. She's a teenage girl who is thrown into a horrifying situation by corrupt and brutal forces beyond her control. She makes decisions. Human ones. Some good - some bad.

And she pays for them. She faces consequences. Anyone who has read the series knows how much she goes through.

A perfect antagonist tends to make for a boring story - because we're not perfect. We identify with and understand flawed people more than perfect people.

r/Christianity: Purely hypothetical, but what do you think would happen if Jesus chose to return as a woman? Do you think the large body of Christian believers/hierarchies would be able to adjust or would they refuse to acknowledge even in the face of the performance of miracles? by Lermontovin Christianity

[–]mifune_toshiro 2 points3 points ago

Don't want to be too blunt, but it's a rather silly hypothetical, IMO.

He's not The Doctor. He doesn't regenerate.

EDIT: Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that when Jesus returns, it's not like people won't notice. It's supposed to be huge, epic, amazing - dead people coming back, whole world restored, judgment of the living and the dead...that kind of stuff. Right?

I think him taking up the Blackstaff would be an utter betrayal of everything he holds to be most good and true and real about the world he lives in and the purpose of the magic he wields.

I don't think he could do it and still be Harry.
