Wonderful shot! You couldn't ask for better lighting. It's hard to say how you could have composed it better without being there but I feel it is just fine. Possibly a little more of the red fern leaves at the bottom but you would possibly lose the framing of the top fern. It will be difficult to get these same conditions again so just be proud of an excellent shot! Put it on flickr, deviantart, and 500px and get some more feedback!

Would it be a culture jam if I used facebooks slogan and altered it? My professor seems to believe it is a culture jam so that's what really matters at this point.

They make sense in that someone is telling you that the opposite is synonymous with what is preferred or morally correct. The government loves having all this information at there disposal. So our thinking is changing and the ultimate decision maker is letting it happen becuase it is to it's advantage both financially and for intelligence gathering.

Diffuse the flash somehow and use a tripod on a timer with a black background. I'm assuming this is a self portrait? Also another flash from behind on low power to light the smoke from the back. Then do some post-processing in Photoshop or GIMP
