The footage is from last friday, the Quds day. It takes place in Haft-e-Tir sq., downtown Tehran.

The small bunch that start running & hitting people early in the video, are Basij members; however their attack causes a backlash from angry protesters when they fight back & set the Basiji's motorcycles on fire.

That's a big bummer & the government takes advantage of shortcomings like this; kudos to anyone who's working to fix that. hope they come up wit something soon.

Yesterday was the last Friday of ramadan; in Iran that's a public holiday called the Quds day (the Jerusalem day) & an official government promoted rally is held.

Protesters used this opportunity & poured to the streets, hijacking the official rally.

Great point; totally agree.

An intervention would hurt us, more than it helps. Getting the word out & covering the events is something else though. that's helpful.

Good idea; I'll pass it along to my friends.

However, the main problem remains; this is good for a few people, but you can't have a whole nation switch their e-mail service over night. Most people are not tech-savvy & can't handle it easily.

many proxy "sites" are themselves filtered. The only sustainable option is to use "softwares" who use proxy servers; such as ultrasurf, freegate, jap, etc.

Surprisingly enough, today many of these softwares have stopped working or are facing serious problems inside Iran.

Yes, we should try. But to us, emails are not luxury items; they're essential to what we do.

With banned newspapers, blocked news sites, monitored phone lines & a government owned TV, e-mail is one of our last options for free semi-secure communication.

I'm out of the country at the moment. I've been talking to my friends via phone.

I double checked it; They can't log in in Gmail, Facebook & Yahoo Mail.
