Are there any other diplomat kids in here? Where have you lived and how often did you relocate? I'll start... by needmoreknowledgein AskReddit

I think not having siblings helped me yah, because I faced the new posts/countries on my own. It might be a good thing, I personally don't like to depend on anyone for anything, so being okay on my own is a big part of that, especially in my circumstances. I think what one decides to judge as good or bad depends on the individual to be honest, you know?

Yah I always thought that it would be like that with siblings to be honest. Maybe every case is different. It's nice you've got that though. BUT:

"Im glad I got to share my experiences with them, otherwise I would've felt terribly lonely and bored"

I can only imagine what it was like to have siblings around but I'll never know. I think the same goes the other way round. You know, once you're okay with being alone, solitude becomes blessed.

I don't know about gas prices but I'd recommend the autobahns in Germany with a matching German car, you'd have a great time!

I'm not patriotic and don't feel like I belong to either of the two countries I'm supposed to be from, but let me guess.. Is it Israel?

I think there are quite a few IAmA's.. The last time I searched anyway. I still did one way back (from my old account) but it wasn't that successful! I hope there are some diplo kids though I've got loads of questions..

Hey! Well, I do have to add that I'm a single child. According to my german dad (who is the diplomat), this was a good choice. My Jordanian mother however has different views on this. I personally think that because I had no siblings to fuel my hatred for that lifestyle, it was a good experience. You see, with many of my fathers colleges kids who had siblings, I noticed unhappiness but there was only one other diplo single child who I knew and also found to be really happy. I have to admit that when the first three transfers were due to happen I felt sick and cried (on my own), but got over it as soon as we arrived at the new house. I think that's because you truly leave everything behind once you arrive and like I said, no sibling was present to remind me of what we 'lost' when I was annoyingly cheery. I hope that makes sense :) I'm going into the diplomacy field too by the way...so the final answer is no, I wouldn't want them to have had a more settled profession. I've seen and learned so much , I'm eternally grateful and I know my kids will be too! It does depend on your government and position too I think

I'm 25 and I've tried different 'hobbies' like the piano, drawing and gymnastics but never really excelled at any of them. I feel like I'm too old to become top of the notch at anything now, you know? by needmoreknowledgein AskReddit

I know what you mean but I do need to excel at something to make a living out of it. Weber was a crazy example. I suppose a good one would be Jessie J though.. And she started quite late I guess.

Good point but things change when you get older and now that I'm 25 I want to start making money doing something I love but instead it looks like I'm slipping into the 9-5 and that's starting to worry me. That's the thing with greatness, if you're seriously good at something you could potentially make money doing it, if not it'll just be a hobby. That's still okay but not amazing and definitely not what I would consider enjoying life, know what I'm sayin'?
