Right, but if we rotate it, it'll give everyone a chance every now and then.

[WSIG] I get paid tomorrow and cant decide to get Ticket to Ride/Tsuro/dominion by rltownsin boardgames

[–]nolemonplease 5 points6 points ago

Give us some details about what you currently own and what you like in games. Without that, I would suggest:

  • Ticket to Ride - This is the easiest to teach to non-boardgamers; I still find it great fun after plenty of plays, contrary to a lot of the opinions against it here

  • Dominion - This one has a lot of replay value, and is highly ranked. It's #1 on our top 10 this week. I personally got kind of tired of it, rarely play it in real life, and usually only play a quick game online if I'm in the mood or if someone else wants to play.

They actually played a game of Arkham Horror that way, I think it worked out pretty well. They played whenever everyone was on (three of them).

Meeple of the Week: buggg by nolemonpleasein boardgames

[–]nolemonplease[S] 5 points6 points ago

buggg forgot to mention that he was the one who started the IRC channel. I discovered it through /r/boardgames last summer, and I have been a regular on there since. He's become my online boardgame buddy; we learn games on yucata all the time together. I've discovered some of my favorite games because I've learned them with him.

Edit: I started to compose this comment immediately after submitting the post. When I hit submit, there was already 6 comments on the post after a several minutes. That should tell you how much he's liked around #boardgames.

So what's your favorite BSG moment? :) by lasteclipsein boardgames

There was the time I revealed as a cylon after I convinced someone to executive order me to repair the FTL location.

There was also that time where we had a new to boardgames friend playing the game. She absolutely loves the show, is smart, and was really excited to play the game. I wasn't sure how she was feeling about the game, though. We were past the halfway point. She was acting helpful in every way she could. Skill checks were succeeding for the most part (didn't notice any sabotage at least). Whenever something bad would happen, should would get visibly upset. Finally, somewhere about 3/4 into the game, it got back to her, and I think we needed her help pretty badly in a few places. She was talking about her different options that she could do, and she said, "Well, I think I'm going to... reveal as a cylon" and she threw down her card. None of us saw it coming, most of us stood up, someone went into the other room and yelled.

I think I may be turning into a FFG snob. Your thoughts? by Massive_Geniusin boardgames

Also the knock that their rulebooks are poor is pretty outdated. All their most recent titles have had excellent rulebooks. It's obvious they heard the complaint and went out of their way to improve in that aspect.

I'm with you here. I actually have barely had a problem with their rulebooks; perhaps I've just been buying and playing recent games

Tasty Minstrel has also been publishing high quality games lately. Belfort and Homesteaders both contain excellent components. I've turned into quite the fan; and I tend to like most of their games, so they are generally an autobuy.

I'm still confused why you didn't include a WSIG tag? You're still asking for suggestions on what to get? The tag isn't just for gateway games.

Just bought Castles of Burgundy, can't wait to try it. I like Kingsburg enough.

Have you tried Troyes yet? Hands down my favorite dice placement game.

Do you get the TMG newsletter? There's going to be a launch deal. Plus, the new copy comes with some guild promos.

It's on the boat (and has been for a while). I'm guessing sometime in June.

Is it really just the cubes that bothered you about Eclipse?

You can buy some awesome trays for that.

I don't know if you've seen the mods and other complaint posts floating around, but we're talking about and working on it. I've personally noticed less of the haul/COMC posts (I don't mind a few of them here and again, as long as they facilitate discussion).

If we do ever split off, I definitely vote that this one remains the discussion one and the new one becomes the whatever one.

If you don't find anything you want, then you simply don't add anything to your want list.

Then you won't be matched up to any trades.

Either way is a good way to check, I think. We've got two cases here. BGG newbie/redditor or BGG regular/reddit lurker. If one way isn't provided satisfactory, check the other one.

The reason for this is that users can, if they're inclined, see who is an regular reddit user and choose to only accept trades from those users if they're worried about getting screwed over.

They may just be a lurker. Another way to tell if the user is trustworthy is to check their BGG profile. Check their trade rating, or see if they have some microbadges or patron badges, etc.

I'll be participating. My username over there is "nolemonplease".
