If you would adhere to some retarded, impossible notion of touching, I suppose this might make sense.

I love taking a crap at someone else's house, especially if the toilet is located in their bathroom. Just feels so fresh and unspoiled.

This is actually about the only one in this thread that I hadn't heard of. To be frank, I think it's a rather dumb one; it begs the question for the thesis that a fetus is equal to a person, which is quite useless because most if not all abortion supporters would deny this.

For a very interesting approach to this and other similar thought experiments, I would recommend reading the chapter about personal identity in Derek Parfit's Reasons and Persons.

I think the answer to this question is a very clear 'no', and for that reason it is not a philosophical question at all imo. Their brain would simply not possess the faculty required to recognise and name objects by sight. It would require extensive training to be able to do this.

I discovered the existence of these seats during a roadtrip with a rental car through US and Canada. I miss that car, as well as other forms of decadence we Europeans have to live without.

Did not notice that, good point. The reason I posted this though, is that I noticed, during the past 2 weeks, that some torrents that should be going through the roof in speed, were downloading very slowly. Could not find any explanation until I stumbled upon this article.

edit: Apparently there are more people that have experienced this recent drop in torrent speeds.

Hypothetical, if you could technicaly "replace" the whole brain with all your memorys, would you be the same person ? Or is it just another person, recognized as "you" ? by regdayrFin philosophy

I'm going to keep focusing on your assumption here. You are saying that, for an outside observer, there is no way you could differentiate between the two clones. This is an obvious, and simple truth. But I think you are imagining one of the clones being able to say something like 'I am me, and this other person is my clone'. You need to consider that they are exactly identical. They have the same memories, the same personality, the same everything. They both think they are themselves. Both the 'original' and the clone think to themselves 'I am me. There is another, identical version of me standing besides me. This person must be my clone'.

My point is this. When you say that one of the persons has to be you and that you can't possibly be two persons at the same time, you are making certain assumptions about the nature of personal identity. A central assumption you seem to be making is that personal identity entails something deeper than a body and a brain and a certain set of memories and character traits. When there are two exactly identical persons, you seem to believe that there is something deeper that separates them.

Let's say you would be able to differentiate between the two identical persons, because one of them has existed longer than the other one. By using carbon dating or some other technique, you can determine the original. Now you can say, for example, 'This person standing here is Mark. The person standing to his right is his clone.' The problem, for me, is that this is not a meaningful distinction at all. What have you learned, with respect to the identity of the two persons, by determining the original? Is he more 'Mark' than the other one because he has existed for a longer time? I think that, with respect to personal identity, there is absolutely no meaningful difference to be made between these two persons.

It feels like you're expecting some objective, factual answer to this question. I, for one, do not believe that such an answer is possible. It depends on the concept of personal identity you are using. With regards to your assumption in 1, I would ask how you would differentiate between the clone and the original? There are 2 identical persons with identical memories etc. Do you think anything there would be any difference between these two persons?

To answer some of your questions, I don't think there would be any difference in the end result if you changed the brain part by part, although, obviously, the process would be different. I don't see how having your brain replaced by an exact copy should have any effect on your identity, so I'm going to say that yes, you would be the same person.

I feel like this argument would also apply to driving when you're tired. You can't always operate at full capacity. Of course getting high is a choice, so you could avoid driving at 'diminished capacity'. If you are against any avoidable form of driving at diminished capacity that is fine, but I just feel most of you are way too harsh. It doesn't make you any more of a danger to people on the road than someone who is driving while tired, or otherwise slightly mentally impaired.

From Wikipedia: "In weaving, weft or woof is the yarn which is drawn through the warp yarns to create cloth". I think Plotinus is saying there would not be any sensation or feeling of being interwoven; even though the body might be entirely permeated by the soul, there should not be any influence of the body on the soul. Seems like he is kind of clearing the way for the possibility of transcending your corporeal self by meditation?

I think it's a good distraction from Summoner's Rift, and it is excellent if you're up for a fast game, but for me it doesn't feel like it'll ever be anything more than that. Killing people and dominating is not very satisfying in Dominion. You just gotta cap points all day. There's just something about picking a tanky DPS and running around killing shit that gets dull really fast. There's absolutely no finesse. Definitely less individual skill involved.
