There is no evidence that mega-wealthy create jobs. It actually is counter to financial logic. The more excess capital someone has the more likely they can store it overseas and gain an even greater ROE.

It has nothing to do with JOBS it has everything to do with leveraging capital on a global scale. Just look at Mitt Romney who is rich beyond imagination, however has America really benefited from his pirate tactics to generate great ROE for his investment house? Of course not. If his #1 success story is Staples (a struggling office discount store) there is no question why he doesn't have a lot of Staples employees rushing to his side in support. Most staples employees were squeezed dearly due to Bain's involvement and the company is plummeting towards irrelevance.

Is this how we plan to turn America around? This is George W Bush 2.0 on steriods. Do Americans want to return to the days of exploitation, unstoppable war-mongering and gay bashing? I hope not.

Wrong. Tax payers are involved because Chase combines its FDIC secured assets with unsecured assets. This $2-3B bet went wrong and Chase will recover but it was only 4 YEARS AGO that banks of this size made worse bets that drove the economy into a ditch and required taxpayer to bail them out.

You are glossing over the real problems with rampant speculation of banks using money that is guaranteed by the government! Chase is not a hamburger stand where a flipped burger on the ground is a loss of 35 cents. It is an institution that does have a public role that should not be allowed to make bets so incredibly convoluted that it can tank the system yet again.

If Chase wants to go speculative crazy with no government interference, it should be a hedge fund, not a commercial bank with "wealth management" services.

But that is not the case. You are saying they "might" but this is not the case. You have the Chinese government actively pursuing an anti-gay agenda (police raids on gay establishments, ban on gay relationships in the medai, no anti-discrimination law).

So to say that China is progressing faster than America is false, to say that China has the "ability" to progress faster is downright false.

I'm not religious but you have many religious Americans coming out in support of equality (Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama etc) while China's secular regime is doing the polar opposite.

You minimize the power of gay rights activists and allies in America and ignore the real struggles LGBT individuals face in China (not to mention a host of other human rights violations).

You may be upset that I am ignoring the fact you said China doesn't have religious homophobia, true, but I don't connect religion with homophobia. It is not a religious thing in America; it is about morality and bigotry. Bottom line. Religion is just a marketing vehichle. China is far more backwards on gay rights than America. Our elected officials are now moving in support of marriage equality. A Chinese Communist official would not even whisper such a thing, and I see no change-of-heart from the Chinese establishment in the near future.

Where have you been? A major state, North Carolina just voted for anti-gay legislation by a large majority of voters. Gay rights is not the most popular thing in this country unfortunately, even though I believe it may be split 50/50 nationally now. Obama is LEADING the way so I will not complain it is taking too long when 4 years ago with George W Bush we had a President that was for a constitutional amendment to shame gay Americans.

It's a bold move by Obama but he definetly can play it well (and he has).

Minority voters are not 1 issue voters and with Mitt Romney as the nominee those voters are a lock with Obama on many other issues so gay marriage will not be as much of a "third rail" as it may have been in 2004.

Obama NEEDS money and his gay donor pool is a big deal for him. He comes to California often and this is a big issue in the Leftcoast.

Romney and Republicans will go on a full-scale attack against Obama and gay Americans further polarizing the right from moderates and young people.

Obama barely won NC. So those haters who are minimizing the impact of this can go fuck themselves. This is a BIG DEAL and not just a political play.

I hope it works for Obama but it could easily backfire. He did not make a "safe" choice just like going after Osama Bin Laden.
