PEP 420 is accepted... and __init__.py won't be required in future Pythons by pjein Python

Can someone summarize what this means?

Kindle for tech books? by FreneticEntropyin kindle

[–]roger_ 1 point2 points ago

I don't think the LCD screen on the Fire is the way to go either. Either an iPad 3 or the DX would be better.

Kindle for tech books? by FreneticEntropyin kindle

[–]roger_ 2 points3 points ago

I gave it a go when I first got my K3.

Pretty much every PDF worked fine, but the problem is ultimately that the screen is too small. I loved the way everything looked -- e-Ink has a lot of potential for displaying technical stuff -- but having to constantly pan and scroll gets annoying.

I'd love to try a DX, but it's way too expensive.

What does that wheel dial near the middle do?

Does anyone use their iPad to read? by kpower05in ipad

[–]roger_ 10 points11 points ago

I recommend a Kindle for reading (pure text) novels. e-Ink is much easier on the eyes IMHO.

I wouldn't recommend anything less than the high resolution of the iPad 3 for reading technical stuff though (e.g. PDFs).

I don't think a rubbing alcohol fumes would ignite like that (assuming that's what he's using).

The ability alone to re-position simple stuff like legends would be a huge improvement for Matplotlib.

At least it's one less bug to (potentially) bite me in the ass one day!

Nice work :)

I can't wait for PyPy to start taking off with full support for NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, etc.

I use Python exclusively, but MATLAB has a JIT and many optimized, multi-core libraries, which I can't deny make it faster in many cases (e.g. unvectorized code).

The OP was saying something about a compiler (?) warning, and I wouldn't think using that would stop it.

Isn't _ just a normal variable name?

Somewhat, but they only make about one significant release every 12 months. Pretty annoying because bugs can hang around a long time, for one thing.

I don't know if Chaco has more frequent updates, but that alone would be incentive for me to switch.

We're cool if it doesn't break any rules.

If they become a problem then we'll address it.

Hopefully this is updated more frequently than Matplotlib.

Wasn't it $10k - $20k lower yesterday?

Not sure if there's a way to check, but I think they're still getting a fair bit of new contributions.

Oh I'm very familiar with it :)

Urad daal, or any other daal, is a dish in its own right.

Not exclusively though. Urad dal can be roasted whole and added to dishes for a "nutty" flavor.

I do use a lot of tomatoes , but naturally that makes everything "tomatoey" :)

Yeah, those are more flattering.
