Maybe grab the iPad version (if that works for you)? Comes with a pretty good tutorial.

Will you still accept walk up/in traffic?

Yes, we plan to install kiosks in a small lobby area. Walk-in customers can place their order (using the same web interface), then enjoy a cup of coffee while their order is picked, packed and brought out to them.

Is it in a traditional shopping center, or is it more off the beaten path

That depends on the metro area and market we're targeting. Typically, an Ernie's location will be located on the "afternoon rush hour side" of a commuter route, as the "order at work, pick up on the way home" use case is expected to be our most common.

peapod ... shittiest produce

Yep, quality is a huge priority for us. We realize that execution is crucial to our success, and if we're picking shitty items (especially produce and other perishables) that will kill us. Incidentally, this is where bolting onto an existing grocery store (like Peapod does) is a terrible idea. On average, supermarket produce is terrible quality. Working with one's own suppliers (where you have some leverage to demand quality assurance) is key.

impulse buys

You are correct. Impulse buys are key to existing grocery profit models. We are replacing the in-store shopping experience with an online shopping experience. So, instead of forcing the shopper to meander through labyrinthine aisles (for example, by placing milk -- an extremely popular item -- as far away from the store entrance as possible) , Ernie's will suggest upsell items on the website, in response to your shopping behavior. For example, you just threw peanut butter into your cart, so up pops a list of artisan jams and jellies you might be interested in. More useful for the consumer and better conversion rates for us.

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts!

We partnered with archer>malmo, an excellent advertising and creative services firm in Memphis. They recently started "a>m ventures", which is devoted to investing creative capital (i.e., marketing, branding, design) in startups in exchange for equity.

If any of you other startups are interested, you should contact them: http://amventures.co

Well, our target market isn't really the Amazon Fresh crowd -- we are targeting Middle America, where the population density is too low to profitably sustain grocery delivery businesses.

However, because Ernie's is a Click & Collect model, we eliminate all of the delivery logistics (and associated expenses) from the business model. Therefore, it's much cheaper for us to sell you the same can of beans as AF. Thus, we can compete with them on cost even on their own turf.

Additionally, with Ernie's your groceries are ready to be picked up a few minutes after you place your order. No waiting for delivery many hours later.

I started this company because this is how I believe grocery shopping should be done. No more fighting crowds, standing in long checkout lines and hunting the store for hard-to-find items.

Would love to hear others' opinions.

We are actively seeking additional investors to help us open our first location. We have commitments from local investors that have us 25% towards our fundraising goal. I have yet to seriously pitch any investors outside the mid-south, which is one of my reasons for posting here (and on Hacker News). I would dearly love to give my brief investor pitch to anyone seriously interested in the concept.

It's funny, I was waiting on the updated graphic this afternoon and the agency sent it over literally 30 seconds after I saw the submission. No worries. :)
